    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Scheme as the work was always varied. Colleagues took there time to explain things if I didn't understand them which was beneficial for everyone. Directors have a good eye for noticing when interns have a lack of work to do and immediately liase with other teams to find something to do.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Naturally, there is a limited amount as to what an unqualified summer intern can do. However, when given appropriate work it was clear that the team valued my skills and efforts alike.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support system at Savills is very good. Each intern is allocated a mentor (a recent graduate) who helps with getting you settled into the firm and work. There is clear support throughout all levels of the company; there are event Associate Directors who have mentors. Many of the Directors go out of their way to help younger employees with their personal career progression (e.g. mentoring a recent graduate in preparation for sitting the APC - Assessment of Professional Competency).

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work loads would vary on a day-to-day basis. There were some quiet periods on a few days of placement - but in general there was always work to get on with. On-going projects such as writing reports could take days or even weeks to put together, which meant work was often completed on a priority basis.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility with regards to conducting my own research and writing subsequent reports. However, with regards to clients, there wasn't much that I could particularly help out with. I think this is completely understandable as in property, surveyors only really start to get client responsibility when they have plenty of experience.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere at Savills is great. Working with very intelligent and successful individuals who are also enjoyable and have fun was a great experience.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • One of the best aspects of the internship was the organisation of it. The graduate recruitment team did a great job in organising city tours, departmental overviews and opportunities to meet important members of a variety of teams.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very. I will certainly be applying for the Savills graduate programme.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, going for drinks and meals with other interns and graduates alike were very common. There are also fairly frequent team activities (e.g. during my placement Savills held their annual cricket match at Lords Cricket Club.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive. The downside to working in London are the living costs. Pacing the spending is key.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Fun and vibrant pubs and bars. People are out and about every evening so there is always something to do.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
