    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great time during my summer internship at Aon. There were a variety of tasks, different challenges, clients and ways to approach the work. Everyone is trying to help you in the organisation and you can learn a lot from experienced colleagues and be able to apply this knowledge later.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was respected by everyone in the organization. I was never offended nor did I have any difficulties working with them. Everyone respected the work I have done for them and thanked me for helping them out. All in all I felt as part of the team from the start till the end.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From the start I was given guidance by both my buddy and manager on the tasks ahead. Whenever I encountered something more challenging or I had no idea how to proceed with a task I was able to ask my colleagues and no matter senior or junior they were happy to help me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The nature of the work was such that on one occasion there 3 or 4 things you need to do in a short space of time and then have no work for a couple of hours. There were a couple of quite days and this was not ideal as interns are very eager to learn.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was being responsible for issued administrative work as well as checking numbers and personal information, which is a big responsibility on itself. In every business mistakes are to be avoided and it was crucial to be concentrated and focused when checking or preparing important spreadsheets, reports or even e-mail communications.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • On the job I was able to learn a variety of new skills which otherwise I couldn’t have learnt that well. I applied some of my previous knowledge to complete successfully the given tasks. As a side note I have to mention that my degree is not extremely similar to the Actuarial work and thus in many situations I started from the beginning.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was fantastic. It was not a too high pressured environment, with a lot of running jokes with colleagues and a complete understanding whenever you have a problem with something. I was also working with young people like myself thus really had no problem settling in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think there were some issues in terms of the organisation. I had to travel a couple of times and was in a need of accommodation. Even though accommodation was provided by the organisation all of the booking confirmations for the trips were sent just a couple of days before the trip and travel arrangements were a bit difficult. Apart from this there we no other major issues with the organisation.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did invest a lot into the interns. We had a three day induction training as well as during the first days we were given very useful tutorials and guides to follow. In addition the study days and materials that Aon provides you with whenever you are taking exams show that the organisation really does care.
