    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am very happy with my internship. Since the first day, the team made me feel very welcome. A variety of work available for completion gave a great insight into the team's main objectives, how it adds value to the firm and retains clients keeping the high satisfactory levels. The internship overall was very well structured, giving us an opportunity to participate in a corporate responsibility project to develop good team building and organisation skills. In addition, weekly lunch and learn sessions were organised to gives us a broader understanding of Aon’s 3 core businesses, which I found very useful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The environment was very friendly, understanding and respectful. Everyone was more than welcome to have a catch up and explain their work and professional background, which made me feel included form the very beginning. The team was also very keen on inviting us to various socials to build more relationships with colleagues and get to know them in a sociable environment.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager or a person I was completing a certain piece of work for always gave enough information to be able to carry out a task. I was always given background information on a client I was doing some work for to understand why certain requirements needed to be met to provide a high quality piece of work. This enhanced my understanding of client relations and introduced to more efficient work approaches.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found the work load very fair. Busy times occurred at the end of quarter when a lot of quarterly reports had to be produced for our clients. However, the work load was very evenly distributed since I was given a variety of tasks, such monthly valuation and performance reports, weekly activities for our corporate responsibility project and day to day tasks to leverage the team.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility was given from the first day of the internship. I was constantly involved in client work which would always be communicated, as requested by the client, in monthly meetings and/or over the email. I was also given an opportunity to work on the tasks which would create a long lasting legacy for the team such as creating a performance calculation spreadsheet of fund managers on the quarterly basis.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I acquired very vital skills while undertaking an internship with Aon. Client communication, team building and organisation skills, acquired during social responsibility project, will be beneficial in any work area. Technical knowledge and software skills will be a very powerful aid in my last year of university since I am studying a degree in a relevant field.
