    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement throughly when I was kept busy with work and there were lots of collegues in the office. However sometimes due to holidays it was very quite and work was slow. The nature of the work was mostly interesting and matched my interests of maths and economics. The project done throughout the internship was very enjoyable and helped me develop a wider range of skills and newtorks around the business

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt the colleagues at Aon were really supportive and welcoming in the beginning, helping me set up my computer and more than happy to introduce themselves and have a chat. As the internship progressed I was given more and more responisbility in my working task by my collegues but still I was able to fall back on them with questions that they were more than happy to anwser and help me work through them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • To start with I was given a lot of support and guidence which helped me settle in quickly and ensured that I felt really comfortable in the work place. As the weeks progressed and I became more independent the onerous on getting guidence and support fell more on myself, which was good as I was then able to recieve support from specific members of the team who the work I was doing related to the most.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload varied on a day to day basis but usually the workload was fairly small in the mornings unless you had left yourself a few task from the previous day. In the afternoons the workload picked up and I was fairly busy all afternoon untill the end of the day. Overall I felt the workload was managable and I didnt feel stressed at all by the amount of work or the pressure of deadlines.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start of the internship I didnt have much responsiblility and only recieved the prescripted tasks that were easy to follow through and didnt require much creativity. However as the internship progressed my level of responsiblity increased and I was given tasks with more free range in which I could have a go creating things and then having them reviewed. Overall I enjoyed how the level of responsibilty increased as the internship went on

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the the skills I developed will massively assist my future career and my further studies. The soft skills I have developed and will continue to develop are so important to working life that I am glad I took the opportunity to develop them in a different and challenging environment. Furthermore I have learnt a lot of computer based skills which will help with my study. Finally it has helped me see the relevence of certain aspects of my degree in working life and motivated me to learn more about these areas

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office changed quite dramatically week on week. Due to the internship being over the summer many of the team that I was working in took their holidays, therefore at certain times the office was very quite with few workers in and sometimes the office was full of people and was busy. The overall atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly but sometimes due to the lack of people was very quite

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I really liked the structure of the internship as it provided me the opportunity to meet a varity of people. The induction days at the start were good fun as I met loads of other interns up in London before moving down to my own office. Also throughout the internship we were split into teams with other interns to do a charity project which allowed us to work on our own project throughout the internship

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm provided lots of training to get you up and running on the main pieces of software they use. They also provided many opportunities for developement in the areas you felt weakest in be it from presenting in team meeting to working with clients. Also there was a three day induction in London to start which provided a good overview of the company and helped teach skills important for the office.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very good within the organsiation with lots of opportunities across the country and across many different deparments. Thus even if the area you worked in wasnt particularly for you, then there is the opportunity to move to a different area. The employment also looks appealing due to the nature of the work and the flexiblilty of the office.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to being in a smaller office and the amount of holidays the social scene was fairly quite. However for big evetns such as promotions or monthly drinks there was a decent turnout which allowed me to socalise with different people. Also at the induction events up in London the social was very good due to the amount of interns and we did something every night we were up there.

  • The nightlife was pretty good in the evening at pubs but due to all the students being home for the summer the clubs werent great
