    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • i loved the internship. it was a great way to meet new people in a new citi. Being in canary wharf I was able to meet people from other banks as well. I had a very good time also shadowing different desks and learning more about my current desks. I never studied finance so I really thought I learnt more and more about the finance world

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues as I was given real work on rather than doing coffee runs like some other companies would do to their interns. I was lucky enough to do excel data and powerpoints for the team to pitch to clients. The funds I learnt about were also very similar to the work they do as well.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance as we had many workshops and speaker series events as well. I really appreciate all the time and effort given from management. We had different top management also come to speak to as and have 1-1 coffee chats as well. It was very useful learning from them and also shadowing what they do as well.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis but I would consider myself lucky and had a good time. It was not too busy to the point I would have no time to network with other members of the division or business. However I am certain that I can say I was never bored or had anything to do which is great. I think it was a perfect balance and highly recommend to keep this balance for other interns.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I had my own projects, my own day to day work as well as trading game work which made my internship very interesting. I was able to shadow and make models as well as speaking to different members of the business. I really enjoyed my time and hope other interns get this much tasks and day to day activities to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • all the skills I received during week 1 of training as well as the skills I learnt on the job and the different workshops will help me in my post internship life whether its coming back for full time or going back to university for MBA or masters. I truly believe I learnt a lot of technical skills and soft skills such as communication, team work and excel skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the general atmosphere of the office is extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone is very easy to approach and is willing to spend time with juniors on the floor. it is really good at shadowing is highly encouraged and people are very open to helping each other. it is really a teamwork type of culture and different to other banks I've been to. It is a really flat structure and everyone is very approachable and good morals. it seems the environment is very international and a lot of social events going on at night.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • it is very well organised. citi has a dedicated HR team who takes care of graduate and interns recruitment and takes care of the interns and graduates during the internship. it is really great how they all create so many different events for us as well as having a guidebook for us to keep track of our schedule as well as having all our faces In there. this way we know who everyone is there is also a graduate committee for the program who we can approach and speak to about the graduate program. it is really great how they do that for us and I really think they are all very approachable.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • the company invested a lot of efforts and time into interns. they took time out of the seniors to speak to us and teach us different topics. we had senior management run a trading game for us all. this helped us learn so much and I really wanted to thank them for that. they also had a week dedicated to only training and nothing else which was amazing for us. We got to do so much and learn about the different products of the markets program.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • the future employment prospects of citi are very appealing as I am dying to know what the result was for my internship and im sure that is everyone else as well. I really cant wait to hear what the future holds. I think all my peers are also very excited for this as well as they are all talking about when offers come out. many people have already planned which desks they want to go on too.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • there was amazing good social scenes as we were able to organise a lot of dinners and events with each other. I really felt a huge citi culture. one of the interns made a crepe event for everyone to go to canteen to get crepes together. it was a really good social group. we have about 250 interns in our cohort from all divisions and when we combine with other banks we have a great social events together. we meet after work for drinks and food all the time as well as lunch breaks together. it is a really good social culture.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • the cost of living and socialising for me is very cheap as I live with a girl at citi for free which is extremely nice. this is what I mean by the citi culture is extremely friendly and caring. the socialising area such as drinks are decently priced. Coming from an expensive country such as Australia it is a lot more expensive than London for sure. I really enjoy the environment here and think its totally worth it.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • nightlife during the week is amazing but weekend is dead. however I don't live around here nor do I work on weekends so having no weekend night life is not an issue for me for sure. I really love the nightlife after hours in canary wharf so I will rate this 10/10

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • yes there were so many different places to get involved at outside of work. we had a lot of after work drinks organised by the business as well as ones organised by myself. I was lucky enough to be able to organise a farewell party for a friend in a different division, which was really good. I love event management so I really enjoyed doing this
