The Role
I felt the internship was more rewarding than enjoyable. That may have been partly down to me having very high expectations of the work I wanted to produce. I acknowledge that I sometimes expect too much from myself, so a good learning experience for me will be to relax and try to enjoy work.
I felt very valued by them. The nature of my project was to reduce their workload, so it was natural for them to support the work I was doing. Everyone was eager to help me and wanted me to succeed, so it was a good experience from that point of view
My managers were not likely to give feedback on my work or directly praise me, but that may also be because I am quite an independent person and I seek guidance over support. I don't feel like I need emotional support at work. In terms of guidance, they were very good. That suits my working style, though some other personality types might have struggled here.
I was very busy. My project was completely end to end and I began from scratch myself. It was a good learning experience to deal with a large workload as it will prepare me for other jobs in the future. I am happy to sacrifice this at the expense of being bored or relaxed at work
I felt I was given a large amount of responsibility and often thrown in at the deep end. This was tough at first but I gradually became more comfortable. Pushing myself is something I wanted to get out of the internship and this definitely happened. This feeds into my earlier point about the management being more interested in guidance: It allowed me to make this my project
I have leant more than I ever expected over these two months. I have learned that it is ok to reach out to people and ask them for advice, without feeling like you are encroaching on their time. I have also learned how to manage my time effectively between different stakeholders and where to focus my energy. My biggest learning, though, has been that I need to come out of myself more and connect with people better. If I can do that, then I think I can have a very successful career here.
The Company
It was very relaxed and not stuffy at all.
The events were organised well , but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to know the management very well. It was hard to get time with them, which may have been down to a variety of reasons. For the future, I would recommend that the management set up more time to get to know the interns.
This is AMEX's strong point and I think there are many opportunities here for self development

I am interested in doing the graduate scheme as I want to learn more about the company. I can see myself pushing my limits even more in the full scheme
The Culture
Definitely with the other interns and also the grads at 1JS. Although amongst the operations interns there was a clash of personalities among a few. This wasn't a big issue for me as it is unrealistic to expect 7 randomly picked people to become best friends, though sometimes it would have been nicer had we all been friends.
No suprises
Brighton is a student town so no surprises
Yes, there are clubs and activities at amex
