    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the variety of work during my internship. Being based in the private banking team meant I got to experience a wide range of cases whilst allowing me to get involved in the wealth management and investments team. Favourite bit of work was the project I was assigned to do that all of the interns receive as part of our assessment.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team have been very supportive. I work in a team of 30 and I have been very welcomed. For my project I have had meetings with a lot of people outside of my team and they have also been very giving of their time. One of the best things about Coutts is, how many the bank is and therefore there is a great culture.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At Coutts all of the interns have a line-manager each and we all share a HR coordinator. My line-manager has been very supportive while I have been here which is useful when you are constantly asking questions. She has also been great at guiding me through the internship to help me maximise my time here. Our HR coordinator also offers us great support and guidance despite us having much less interaction with her.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been very busy on the whole but we work sociable hours on the whole. There is always something to do so if you don't have anything on your desk you can always help others out. Hours are really good. My manager doesn't expect me to do anymore that 8:30-5

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a good amount of responsibility and always had the support there if I ever felt I needed it. My project has been the task that I have had the most responsibility for.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have definitely developed over my time here. I have developed both skills applicable for any job such as time management, team work and client service as well as industry specific skills such as advisory and strategy. The training I received was good for the 10 week period but if I come back as a grad we will receive a much more extensive training which will be very useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very friendly and enjoyable. Office space is really nice too.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was nicely structured but offered the opportunity for us to be able to get involved in things we were particularly interested in.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Coutts invest quite a lot into us considering how short the role is. I know if I come back as a grad too they further develop in us, including accreditation opportunities.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene. I went to several social events with my team and grads over my time at Coutts.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reasonably expensive but it is London after-all.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pub life and eating options around work is very good.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Coutts has a wide range of extra-curricular societies to get involved in and we are encouraged to as well.
