    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working at UBS. it was extremely fun. I have grown to love waking up at 5:00am every morning to be in bright and early at 6:40am. I feel so much more productive nowadays and I would recommend UBS to any prospective applicants as the structure and exposure is unrivalled.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In my first rotation, my task did not have much relevance to my desk so naturally I did not feel like I added any value/was valued much. However, in my second desk, my task was relevant and engaging with current issues and I liked my team so I felt like I was valued a lot.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • In both of the main chunks of my internship, I was given a lot of support and guidance which was incredibly useful. UBS has a fantastic culture in the sense that you can probably ask anyone for help and support and they would definitely be more than happy to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The problem with having two mini-rotations is that in general you probably do not have enough time to get completely up to speed to work on either desk. Therefore, there were some days in my first rotation where I was not really busy and also some times where I was busy with non-desk work which I preferred less.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As I was interning on Sales and Trading, naturally it is impossible for me to have a lot of responsibility due to regulations. Therefore, it is difficult for me to get a representative comment on this matter. However, you definitely have a lot of responsibility in terms of group work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt will be invaluable to me for the rest of my life. It has given me a rigorous grounding in not only finance, but also has shown me the different skills that will be necessary to succeed in any business environment. UBS has been amazing in this respect.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The fun never stopped in the office. Although there are always some tense moments at times, there is definitely a buzz in the office which is great and definitely energises you. Also, Thursdays and Fridays are generally more relaxed and in general UBS is would be a very lovely place to work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The whole program was set up and organised incredibly well. We had lots of weekly sessions to help us develop our knowledge in markets and we also had lots of external speakers including and Olympic Gold medallist and also a Paralympic Gold medallist. Also, in the second week, we had mini-rotations on many different Sales and Trading desks which was super useful in deciding what we liked.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Clearly UBS have invested a lot into this program. Following on from what I said before, there were so many different training opportunities presented for us and every person on the floor is so busy but still will happily take out time from their day to teach you all about what they know.
