    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really interesting work which matched what I was originally looking for in applying- I'm a science graduate and wanted to get experience of working within science away from the lab.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was in were fantastic- made me feel really welcome and felt like I could ask any of them anything.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Lots of support and guidance from my manager as well as from the HR department. Equally I was left to drive my own project which I liked as I feel that I had real responsibility.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied week to week and day to day but overall the workload was really flexible so if I ever did feel like I was too busy/ bored there would be easy ways to rectify it.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was wholly responsible for delivering my project work (social media based).

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have already graduated so this experience will help me in future career planning and has widened my written communication skills and has given me an insight into other teams at CRUK through shadowing opportunities. Also, the HR department gave good CV/ interview advice which will be invaluable.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone clearly got on well and I immediately felt welcomed. Open office environment so lots of people around all the time which also created a good buzz.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Short notice given at point of offer till the start date which worried me as I had notice at a previous job to work and also needed to move down to London so this could have been communicated better. Also, working hours and simple things like office dress code would've been useful to know at the start as a reassurance measure! Once I started though it was very well structured and organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of personal development opportunities, managers and HR advisors both willing to help out with CV/ interview/ application feedback and advice for future careers. There was also a presentation skills workshop.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • You can participate in intern fundraising as well as trips to the pub at the end of the week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Some discounts at local pubs, the CRUK cafe is cheap with lots of lunch options. Travel and lunch can be claimed on expenses.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of pubs, bars and restaurants but didn't explore many.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not sure.
