    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship, the work was varied, I had the option to rotate onto a second project halfway through. They really tried to help give me a wide experience during my 8 weeks at PwC. Everyone in the Leeds office was very supportive and helped to make me feel welcome from day one.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued as I was given work which I could own and deliver, it wasn't menial tasks such as photocopying which was good.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone was approachable and willing to give advice so felt very supported by my supervisor. I believe the Buddy and People Manager system is really helpful as you have close contact with both someone who has recently entered the graduate scheme and another person who has been at the company for a few years. They both were very helpful and supported me with any problems I had.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workflow was varied being very busy some days and more quiet others. Whenever I was quiet it was easy to find work by talking to colleagues who all had work they could give you and were grateful for the help provided. There were days I was too busy however if I explained this to my managers they would be happy to push deadlines back so I could complete all the work to a good standard.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given tasks which I owned on both projects, I was given guidance on how to create a document but was allowed to create it myself in the way I thought was best. Some of the products were for the client so it was a high level of responsibility to say the limited time I had been on the project. I also helped to organise a social event with both the PwC and client teams which was high responsibility as the client were involved.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The time management skills I developed will be incredibly useful next year at university and long term in my career. Also the 3 day training residential helped to develop my soft skills especially my public speaking skills as we had many opportunities to present in front of a large group. This will be beneficial in both group projects next year at university and in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The Leeds office has a very good social vibe and something I loved, it has a good atmosphere and everyone is friendly and knows each other. I was invited to countless social events from the Otley run to Escape rooms to Friday night drinks after work. Overall the office environment is one of the best selling points of the Leeds office, everyone seems to be friends as well as colleagues.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised from the induction residential to the actual client site work. We were given constant updates on our progress and felt in the loop regarding the whole process. Our first rotation project was already organised before we got to Leeds which meant when we got on site we had work straight away which was good.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The residential induction was a 3 day training course helping us to learn how to use the firm's laptops, which was a struggle for everyone at the start but was quickly resolved, and then developing our soft skills such as presenting and how to act in a client situation. We also did team building and networking exercises to help us meet all the other interns at the start of the programme.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a graduate job with PwC so they are about as good as they could be! The majority of people who completed the internship and all the people within my office got offered a graduate job, so it is a definite stepping stone to a career with PwC.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes I got along well with all the other interns in the Leeds office, we had weekly catch up meetings and talked throughout the weeks. We worked in different locations throughout the weeks but often went for drinks after work when we were in Leeds together. We organised a social for the office on our last day which many people attended.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my internship so there wasn't any rent to pay, I have been told accommodation in Leeds is relatively cheap though. When socialising we went to relatively cheap places however Leeds as a whole is quite an expensive place to go out but nothing when comparing it to London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leeds has a very good nightlife and many colleagues in the office went out religiously on a friday night. It is where I have grown up so I know it well however everyone in the office seemed to agree and enjoy the nightlife in Leeds. The nightlife was also helped by my colleagues in the office who were fun and loved going out, so there was always something to do at weekends.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were weekly emails for events such as 5 a side football and we were invited to the associate social at the escape rooms. We just missed the charity day so were unable to get involved in that, but there seemed to be many opportunities for many different activities if you wished to be involved.
