    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I enjoyed how busy the programme has been, during the beginning of the internship it started off quietly but then it picked up a lot. I enjoy being around a hard-working, supportive, and busy environment. I had a nice variety of tasks given to me as well as projects to work on, and a final presentation, giving me the opportunity to improve on several different skills throughout my time here.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team have been excellent, they were extremely supportive throughout, welcomed me to ask any questions and whenever I asked for help someone would dedicate time to help me with this. It would have been more ideal to sit closer to the team (I sat a bit further away), I got to sit with them for 1 week when colleagues were away on holiday and that was a fantastic week, they are a lively, chatty, hardworking and busy team and made me feel extremely welcome and gave great advice.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Overall the relationship with my manager didn't meet my expectations, he was extremely busy and I would have liked to have a much better relationship with him. He did help me with various questions and went over some of the project work with me, would have liked more of this throughout the entire process and would have liked to develop a much better relationship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the beginning of the internship I was not busy, team members told me this would pick up throughout and it definitely did! During week 4 onwards I had been given a variety of tasks, and I was understanding more about the business and beginning to network and found plenty more to do and make the most of my experience here. Towards week 6 onwards it was great having a packed schedule!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would have liked to been given more responsibility and contribute to BAU daily tasks done by the team, I would have liked to help the team more in that sense. I had a couple of tasks that were important daily activities and was happy I managed to do them well for the team. One of my projects had a nice amount of responsibility when looking at large amounts of data and issues that need to be resolved for the team - overall there is a lot of trust put into you which is a welcoming feeling from day one.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship experience has developed my skills a lot, skills such as communication, technical, teamwork, analytical are all crucial in this type of environment, and getting the practical experience has left me with the skills qualities and knowledge I will use permanently throughout my studies and my future career. The training and advice I received from my team was extremely helpful, critical, and understanding - great support!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere within my office was busy, buzzing, and hard working. I enjoyed being a part of such a lively office, everybody communicates with each other in regards to work/other matters - there is plenty of help and support around from your team as well as other employees if you simply want to shadow others/learn more about what other lines of businesses do in order to figure out what career path might interest you. I enjoy coming in everyday because the vibe in the office is fantastic. I feel welcome, comfortable, and I enjoy being kept busy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the internship could have been structured better in regards to our work - I would have liked to have a set timetable from day 1 in regards to what my manager wanted me to do, this wasn't discussed until week 2-3. During the beginning of the internship is was quiet as I didn't have much to do, my computer wasn't set up properly and that took up a lot of time. Ideally if there was work set up from the beginning, and my manager had discussed what he wants from me from the beginning, I think I would have enjoyed it for much longer, not from week 4-5 when I started enjoying the workload more.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In regards to personal training and development, campus recruitment, as well as my team have put in a lot of time and effort to ensure I feel support. Campus recruitment have been great support for interns and any difficulties I had been having I felt comfortable discussing it with them and I felt extremely valued as an employee. The company is absolutely fantastic and they do make a great effort for interns to have a good experience, for example by organizing intern events, mentoring activities, different talks on the careers within JP Morgan. In terms of personal development my team have helped me with this very much, I was initially very quiet and my team are extremely hard working and communicative, made it much easier for me to approach and ask for help, brilliant support.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • With the new graduate scheme and the opportunity to do a rotational programme, I am excited at the future employment prospects within the organization, by being able to explore different teams throughout. During the internship many colleagues are welcoming to meeting and discussing their career path, what might suit you, and how they can help you get to this - JP Morgan have helped many people move around within the firm to find something that suits them best, great organization and it values its employees highly.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I had an excellent time with other interns, we had events organized by JP Morgan which were great, and within my line of business (Operations) in particular we would make a conscious effort to arrange events weekly, the social scene was great and I really enjoyed the company - everyone is understanding, open-minded, and a great crowd to be around.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live at home in London so living costs are great for me (if you don't live in London then wow it's expensive), socializing is quite expensive around canary wharf/central London - but there are plenty of things to do in London if you are on a budget as well! Excellent city - worth the cost.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London nightlife is buzzing, plenty of clubs to choose from, plenty of bars, there is always something to do everyday of the week, you won't ever get bored after work if you're looking for an outing, whether it's a calm outing or a 4am type.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The corporate responsibility charity day for example, which was an outside of work activity and was a great chance to work with interns from all lines of business, as well as do something that isn't related to our work, but something that is important to JP Morgan. During the 10 weeks we only had one of these days, maybe a couple more in different areas would have been nice.
