    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I greatly enjoyed my experience with Savills. I looked forward to coming into work everyday and was certainly sad to leave the office on the final day!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Although I am not trained / have a property degree, I felt genuinely valued by all of my colleagues. They seemed extremely sincere with their gratitude towards the work I was doing for them and gave me tasks to do that I could see tangibly related to the work they were currently doing.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Faultless. All members of the team were extremely approachable and friendly, which made the experience much more worthwhile. I felt comfortable asking all members of staff (including the senior members) any questions I may have, even if they seemed stupid / petty. Whenever I needed support / guidance, someone was on hand to provide it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied. However, it must be noted that this is not the fault of the team, it is more the fact that July is a quiet time generally due to holidays. What is more, there was an individual doing work experience during some of my placement so the work we received had to be split further, sometimes leaving me with not much to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It is unrealistic to believe that the team members are going to give you extremely valuable work as you are not as trained / experienced, that being said, it was extremely rewarding to see that the work I was doing was being fed directly into the more general projects that the team were working on. There were very few menial tasks, but instead more rigorous and in-depth research and compilation work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Coming from a non-cognate background, I learnt a huge amount over the month. Almost every program, software and methods that I used was new to me and so it was a very steep learning curve; however, it was one that I benefitted from massively. All of the skills and competencies that I discovered / developed will assist me greatly in the future, especially in a graduate role / training for my APC.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Absolutely fantastic atmosphere and relationship amongst my team, and in the office more generally. I truly believe that the relaxed (but not complacent), yet productive environment contributes to the success of the company.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well set-up. HR were extremely accommodating and were able to answer any queries we may have had throughout our time there. There were lots of talks given by people from various departments, which offered us a more holistic view of the company, whilst allowing us to gain a greater understanding of the specific areas which may interest us.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is hard for a company to invest in you over such a short period (a month), but, as previously mentioned, the members of the team / HR answered any questions and gave us great guidance throughout our time there, allowing me to greatly develop personally.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to think they are quite high! I will certainly be applying for the graduate scheme, and I hope that by partaking in the summer scheme, I will be well-poised to perform well in the interview / assessment process.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we went out for lunch and drinks on various occasions. To be expected, individuals had their own commitments which made it hard for us all to meet-up together, however, often a large majority turned up which made the experience more enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some, but not loads. For example, I worked at a Savills property auction, which gave me a great insight into a completely different side of the company. However, I did not get offered the opportunity to train / play for Savills in any of their sports teams, which I would have thoroughly enjoyed, for example.
