    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship. I got to experience a variety of different sectors as well as a range of the different services that BDO offer. As well as this, I also got to experience an audit on a client site which may not have been possible if my internship was with another firm. I got to see the audit process right from the planning stages, right up to the signing of the accounts which was really valuable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The client that I visited was particularly tricky. When the work had been completed, I was praised by the rest of my team for the hard work I put in and reassured that not all clients had the same views as this one. At the end of my internship, I was also notified that I had received a £75 voucher for the hard work on this client.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support that I received from the managers and other colleagues within the office was brilliant. If I had any queries about what \I was doing at any time, someone would always be on hand to ask questions and they were more than happy to help. I would not feel intimidated about going up to anyone in the office to ask for help as everyone was extremely approachable.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start of the internship there was a lot to do, not too much that it was unbearable but the work was steady. During this time I visited a client site to perform some of the auditing, went on a stocktake and did some calling and casting etc in the office. Towards the end of the internship the work load became significantly less.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more responsibility during the internship than was expected. After completing the first part of the audit at the clients site, there was still some outstanding documents that we hadn't been able to access and therefore I had to return to the client site to complete that part of the audit with just one other person who wasn't assigned to the job. I did not expect this to be the case.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed many skills over the last six weeks. Communication and being able to adapt to different situations was very important and this is a skill that will be transferrable across to my degree studies and beyond. I have also developed my teamwork skills which are vital to an audit as without the team, it would never be possible to complete the task in hand.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was brilliant in the office. The fun literally never stopped.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a plan in place, however due to the workload of the office it was not always possible to be able to stick to it.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe the firm have invested in the interns. They have provided valuable experiences by giving exposure to an office environment as well as what an audit is all about and how it is conducted.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be more than happy to start on a training contract with BDO after university. It would be an extremely valuable experience and as a result I would become professionally qualified.
