    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience. This was due to a combination of interesting work, great people and a great working environment. The work I was given was interesting and important which motivated me to complete it to the best of my ability. The staff at this company are amazingly welcoming and I felt as though I fit in straight away.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues because I was given work which had a high level of importance. Therefore, I knew that my colleagues trusted me to complete it to a high standard. I always felt as though my work was appreciated whatever level of difficulty it was. I felt as though my colleagues gave me a good level of responsibility and allowed me to succeed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given very good support from my manager. Whether the support was related to work or just generally fitted in, I found it easy to speak to anyone in the office and knew that I would receive good advice. If I was ever unsure about any of the work I was doing I knew that I could ask someone and that they would sit down and explain it to me, even if it did mean taking some time out of their day.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was generally quite busy on a daily basis, but the workload was fairly inconsistent. I often find myself with little to do except researching the past work of my colleagues. However, not long after this I would find that I had tasks set for me by several colleagues which would keep me busy for days and were very interesting. Therefore, I was busy for the most part, but this was inconsistent.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt as though I was given a lot of responsibility on my internship and was definitely given more than I expected. I found myself doing tasks of very high importance and producing work which would go directly to the end client. This gave me a sense of accomplishment and meant that I was motivated to complete the work to a high standard as I knew the importance of what I was producing.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed on my internship will be hugely important in the future. Despite not having much relevance to my degree studies, the professional skills I have gained from working in this environment and being along such intelligent people will prove to be vital in my future endeavours. I have definitely found this the most valuable experience of my life in terms of my professional life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was fantastic. The staff in my department was very welcoming, very outgoing and very friendly. This made it easy to speak to anyone in the office and made it easy to get down to work without feeling stressed about anything. It was common that staff would bring in food and celebrate events such as weddings, birthdays etc. This all meant that the general atmosphere was great.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was fairly well organised. The programme is very official and the induction day was a great introduction to the company. However, I found that the work I was given was not so organised. Instead of being placed on a project / piece of work, I was tasked with smaller jobs and tended to be doing whatever was needed by my colleagues. This made it difficult to really get involved in a piece of work as I found myself constantly switching between tasks.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm definitely invested in me in terms of training and development. Throughout my internship I found that any member of staff would always take time out of their day to thoroughly explain their role and the specifics of a task. Also, throughout the internship I had goals which I pushed to achieve and these ensured that the staff at my firm invested in me so that I could achieve these goals.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My employment prospects at this firm are very appealing. This is because the firm is a great place to work. The atmosphere, tradition and people at the company all combine to create a very unique place to work and definitely one which I would consider going to after my studies. This company definitely stands out a great place to work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social side of things at the company was average. On our induction day we had a great social event making pizza and drinking in the evening. However, after this I found that there were not really any organised social events for interns or throughout the company in general. Despite the interns meeting up a few times for a drink or lunch, the overall social side of this company could definitely be improved.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of socialising in this area is extremely expensive. London as a city is very expensive, and the area around these offices is probably more expensive than the average London area. Saying that, it definitely is not unaffordable and I still found myself socialising at the pub or at restaurants very often after work.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area is great. The area is very well catered for office workers and is filled with bars and restaurants which you can enjoy after work. The bars and restaurants are always full which creates a great atmosphere in the area and makes it very enjoyable to go out during the evenings with work friends or other friends.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were not a lot of opportunities to get involved in any activities outside of work. I found that there could definitely of been more effort put into setting up some sports sessions or something similar for staff after work.
