Commercial Management Intern Review

Really enjoyable internship which is extremely well run and allows you to push your learning as far as you want to go. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in things in and outside of work and everyone is always very supportive of you. There is a great culture in the firm, everyone is friendly and always willing to give you a hand should you need or ask for it.

Within a few days I really felt like part of the team. Although my colleagues were very busy they made sure I always had a valuable task to be getting on with. I felt the work I was doing was adding to the work of my team and that my team were genuinely interested in the contribution I could make.

I was given a lot of support throughout the internship and would have weekly meetings with my manager to make sure that everything was on track. We also had catch-up meetings with HR throughout the internship to ensure we were happy with the supervision. Similarly during those meeting we discussed what we found valuable from our work and meetings with our managers and could discuss any issues should you have any.

I always had something to do. Even if you didn't have that much work to be getting on with, you could ask any member of the team and they would happily give you tasks to do that would help both them and you. Although I was always busy it didn't feel pressured and you generally have enough time to complete the tasks you've been given. It was a good balance.

A couple of the projects I worked on carried a lot of responsibility and I certainly felt that I had to produce something of a good enough standard. Understandably it can be difficult to get an enormous amount of responsibility during an 8-week internship but I was always given exposure to important client work and meetings which my managers attended.

The skills I developed here will certainly help me beyond my degree. Not only will this be in understanding the role of asset management and the intricacies of the industry but also the teamwork and interpersonal skills you develop whilst being on the internship. You can feel at the beginning like you're being thrown in the deep end but by the end you find out how valuable that learning curve is.

There was a great atmosphere in the office. I think that one major differentiator for M&G is the open culture that the firm has. Everyone is friendly and very generous with their time. People work hard but are also willing to grab a coffee and chat about what they do. Everyone is always very open and happy to have a chat with the interns and help them wherever possible.

The internship was really well organised and this began a few weeks before we'd started as we received our plan for the 8 weeks. There were regular catch-ups with our managers and HR and every week there were insight sessions into different parts of the business. This meant that by the end not only did you have a good understanding of what your team does but also an understanding of how the whole business fits together.

The insight sessions were very useful and as we completed more of the 8 weeks we also had insight sessions which were specific to the internship scheme we were on. The company really invests in you as an intern and makes sure that the work you are doing is constructive and useful to both you and the firm.

M&G is a great place to work, the friendly culture and the people are what really sets it apart. The work is interesting and there is always something new to learn.

As interns we had a lot of activities already organised for us but we also organised things ourselves outside of work.

London is generally very expensive so the cost of living and going out can be quite expensive unfortunately.

The Nightlife was good as lots of people would go for a drink after work. I think that on the weekend though people tend to go elsewhere when looking for bars.

The working hours were really good meaning that you could get involved with lots of things after work. Also, with the tube in London you can get around quite easily which means you can get involved in activities outside of work.
