    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found the internship very enjoyable, with many opportunities to learn and meet people working in different roles.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was integrated straight away into the team and given responsibility for important work, just like an actual employee.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given appropriate support by my supervisors, who were always available when I had a question and ready to help when I was stuck on a task. The tasks I had to do were mostly very clear and I only rarely had to wait for additional information to be able to work.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very rarely bored, but depending on the day I could have either a lot of work to do or have some periods during the day during which I would have to ask for additional work. It is up to you to ask for more work or information when you do not have any tasks left to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility as I was given ownership of an important project for the company. The work I did will be used by people around the bank, which is a big bonus for the internship. Taking responsibility for a project makes work much more interesting and rewarding.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot about finance and banking through the work I was doing and through the very good training received. There are plenty of opportunities to go to talks to learn more about various areas in finance. The skills I developed for IT will be useful my degree studies and beyond, even if my work consisted mostly of applying the skills I already had.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very positive, you can chat with anyone and I did not meet a single employee who was not happy to help you or to have a chat with you about their role in the bank. The team I was in was pretty young on average which contributed to the great atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely well organised, I do not have anything negative to say about it. The induction and training sessions at the start of the internship were very fun and informative. Regular events were organised during the internship with the other interns. There are many opportunities to give feedback if things are not going perfectly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal training and development, I would say the company invested heavily on its interns. There were a couple of days of training at the start of the internship to get up to speed on finance and banking concepts. Inside my team, I had many training sessions organised with different team members to learn how the team works. There are many talks and opportunities to learn more about Technology and Finance.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Graduate roles are regularly offered to interns if they impress during their internship or placement.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amongst the interns and colleagues. People regularly go for drinks on the company terrace and have lunch together. The internship class was very social with many opportunities to go have drinks and go out with fellow interns. Interns met for lunch most days of the week.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The company is located in central London, it is not a surprise that living and socialising in the area is pretty expensive. Most colleagues and interns live outside of Central London and commute to and from work every day. London has plenty of cheaper areas to go out (Shoreditch is 15 minutes away). The only socialising done in the area I worked in was to have a drink after work, which is not too expensive. Regarding food, there are plenty of relatively cheap cafes and restaurants next to the company building.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has plenty of nice areas to go out, but it can get quite expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, such as sports clubs (football, rugby, tennis, etc.), a choir, music lessons, public speaking meetings and gardening to name a few. These opportunities are subsidised by the company and some of them are even free. This allowed me to get involved in different activities which helped strike a nice balance between work and other activities.
