    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was really interesting and insightful. I learned a lot about about PwC and the work that is required as a graduate and how this role changes as you progress in your career. I feel like PwC make an effort to allow you to get the best idea of the firm in the 6 weeks by allowing you to work on different jobs with different teams.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that my work was really appreciated by my colleagues and this was highlighted in a point included in my feedback. My colleagues made an effort to help me when i was struggling and gave me tasks to do that where in line with what a graduate would be doing with the firm. So my tasks had to be completed in order for the team to progress with the job.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My seniors where very supportive during my time at my internship. PwC were very adamant on encouraging their interns to ask as much questions as possible. A lot of the time it is more beneficial to management if they provide as much support as possible because it helps the job move along more efficiently and therefore you notice that your seniors will actually go out of their way to support you.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is definitely days where you will be VERY busy but then there will be days where you are chasing up people just to find something to do. It tends to be when you're working on client's sites you will be more busy because you are working to more of a time constraint but when you're in the office it is definitely a lot more relaxed. If you find yourself with nothing to do you can always ask someone for something to keep you busy!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the placement you are expected to act as a graduate entering the firm. Therefore you will be talking to clients directly and making sure you work at an efficient pace to make sure the work runs smoothly. Having said that you're not expected to know anything going into the role so if theres anything you're not sure about, it is important that you raise this issue with the people you are working with to avoid issues down the road. You are also responsible for making sure you keep busy so whenever you're available for work make sure you talk to someone to get you started on something new.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There is a residential 3 day training session at the beginning of the internship to get you familiar with the firm and the software it uses. A lot of the software and skills will be specific to PwC so if you were to move to another job then the software skills might not be as beneficial. Having said that, the thought process involved in learning how to audit accounts will be the same wherever you go and i can honestly say that the amount of progress i made throughout the 6 weeks at PwC was probably more beneficial that my 3 years so far at university. You also learn to develop your soft skills such as how to change your working style to suit different situations and gain confidence in the jobs you are doing.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere is very relaxed and everybody is extremely friendly and approachable. The office is in an open plan setting so it's very easy to speak to anybody when you require a little more guidance. There are no assigned seats so you can easily change who you sit with every day so it's easy to get to know a wider range of people.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised throughout i.e. there was an initial plan for each intern and the jobs they would be doing throughout their time at PwC. The beginning of the internship was extremely organised and this involved a 3 day residential induction at Beaumont House in London where the interns completed initial training and team building exercises. There were a few issues in which jobs were completed quicker than expected or there was no work for interns to do on the job when it came time to do so which resulted in us just being given random tasks but this did not happen too often.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PwC is very passionate about investing in their staff. For example, every member of staff gets a laptop upon joining the firm and employees can then use this to access a wide range of training resources such as e-learns and compliance training to make sure that all of the staff and PwC are competent in the jobs that they do. The firm also organises occasional residential and local office training in order for staff to learn more complex topics.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • PwC is without a doubt an excellent place to work. It is consistently ranked first place in the times graduate employers list and it is clear to see why. it is very easy to fit in at the firm and it is definitely the people that work there that make it a great place to be. Every is so supportive and willing to help you reach your goals. Definitely a good place to work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • PwC organises many social events to keep staff moral high. There was almost always something happening every week from social dinners to end of month office drinks and even a boat ride down the river Clyde in Glasgow. PwC had a very active social committee and it is greatly encouraged to get involved in as much as possible to help build up relationships within the office.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Glasgow is very variable depending on what you want to make it. For example Glasgow has a large population of students so there are lots of clubs and bars that cater towards a more student type budget. However if you don't plan well you can easily spend way more so it really depends on how determined you are to save money or not.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow has an incredible nightlife. There is always something to do every night so it inst difficult to find anywhere. Glasgow has a lot of clubs that are catered to a student lifestyle so it can be very cheap to go out. It also has lots of bars occasional festivals so there's definitely a wide range of events to suit any personality.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The PwC Glasgow office has a very active social committee and the firm greatly encourages its staff to get involved in these. The sports and social committee has a wide variety of clubs to get involved in from badminton to office yoga! The social committee sent out regular emails and month end reviews to let employees know what events are coming up and how well the socials have went in respect to competitions, fundraising and volunteering.
