About You
I enjoyed my internship a lot and I would highly recommend anyone applying to apply for KPMG. Everybody was super friendly and every single one of my colleagues were always there to help, answering questions all the time. There were a lot of socials going on and the culture was great.
You do feel like they take care of you, given KPMG assign all interns a buddy and a performance manager is there for you. This is so they can monitor your progress which is great and provide feedback on your performance, also my people leader was so nice and introduced me to everyone.
My department was so tight-knit, everybody was so close by and my buddy was there to answer and questions. This was great as I was kind of a blank space and I didn't know much about the technicalities so therefore having someone there is always nice. I would rate my support an 8 because I felt there was always someone there.
Most of the skills that I will use is probably basic competencies such as organisation, time management and punctuality. All these skills I acquired will help me achieve a better grade in third year so I am glad I done it. I don't think the skills in finance will help me with my degree however, as it doesn't apply to my course.
The Company
Due to my department, I think it would have been very difficult to make the internship structured. This is because different projects can be at certain times, which means the department is busy during certain time periods. However, I was lucky in a sense I was put on a project really quickly.
Fantastic - I would highly recommend KPMG to someone who wants to experience a company with a great organisational culture. One that is friendly, open and easy to communicate. Felt the atmosphere in our department was tight-knit and everybody was so friendly - would definitely recommend it to anyone trying to get into finance.
Quite a bit - we had to fill out something called a passport which meant objectives had to be completed so each vacation scheme participant got the most out of their internship. This was the first year it had been introduced so I was quite happy and it meant we constantly monitored our progress.
Yes, to some extent. I was put on a project straight away and it was a healthcare one. I felt the intensity and got a unique insight on what it would be like working in a full time role. Although, I feel the internship could have been longer so I could get an insight in to other projects and get a real feel on what it would be like.
Yes a lot. It was great seeing how close everyone was and the way people interacted. I done my research on the company and saw everybody was talking, and the fact that the company culture is meritocratic. You can always speak to a senior member in the company and ask for advice so that was very helpful, for example.
It was valuable in helping my decide on my future career path due to the fact I got an insight into one of the deal advisory departments at KPMG. The content of the day was good, I would have liked to experience another department had I been there longer but it was only 4 weeks so it is completely understandable. I definitely enjoyed my time at KPMG.
Everything Else
Kpmg reimburse all expenses and they pay you. They are quite quick in reimbursing expenses.
Yes - there were socials organised at that start of each month. There was also a boat party arranged for all vacation scheme participants. Also, it was nice to talk to other colleagues in other departments - this was good as you got an insight into how they found their jobs and why it may appeal to you.
Very good - there were networking opportunities on the first induction day and it was very helpful talking to people from deal advisory, which is the department I want to get in to. They gave me a proper insight into what a full-time role was like. The socials were always nice and quite popular.

Yes - the company culture was great and would highly recommend this internship to any first year students. I am really encouraged to apply as a student brand ambassador for KPMG, I enjoyed it that much however it doesn't let you apply for University of Nottingham students which is quite a shame. But I would definitely recommend.
