The Role
I completed the 6 week internship at PwC and I really enjoyed the placement! The staff were very welcoming and the working atmosphere was great. I was busy the majority of the time throughout the placement however there were Sometimes that I did not have any work to for a few hours.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was instantly welcomed into the office and was working with great teams throughout the placement. On the second week of my placement there was a core social which was a great opportunity to get to know the staff in a more informal atmosphere.
My people manager was excellent throughout my internship. Anytime I had any questions or issues he was always available in person or by email. He would take time out of his schedule in order to respond to queries and I developed a strong relationship with him by the end of the week.
The majority of the time I was busy at work however there were extended periods of time where I had nothing to do. When you have nothing to do it can get quite boring as everyone else is busy and you're just sat there. I never had too much work on at any point throughout the placement.
As a summer intern with little experience you can not expect to be running the show! However I was given responsibility for certain small tasks within the audit. I was always present in all the opening/closing meetings and was never not included in anything, however the role was more observational.
The training I received will not really help me in my degree studies. It was very specific to accounting whereas my degree is more maths based. however, the training would definitely assist me if I were to pursue a career in audit.
The Company
Overall there was a great atmosphere in the office and on client site. I worked with great teams throughout my placement who always had good banter and created a good atmosphere. You could tell that the people who worked in my office were friends as well as colleagues which made a difference!
The internship was fairly well organised. I was booked to a new job every week so I got a experience working on a broad range of clients. The only negative was that there were times where I had nothing to do for a few hours which did become quite boring.
The company put all the summer interns up in a hotel for the first three days of the internship. this was a great opportunity to network and get to know all the other summer interns. The training that was given meant that we were working on clients as soon as possible after starting.

I have not had my final job offer meeting yet however I am very positive based on signs given from managers that I have worked with.
The Culture
The social scene was one of the best parts about the internship! there were 5 summer interns in my intake and we went for drinks once a week, i will definitely keep in contact with all the summer interns! There was also a social in my first week and people would often go to a pub after work on a Friday.
I did my placement in Newcastle so cheap food and cheap nights out!
The nightlife in Newcastle is amazing. There's so many clubs to choose from that there is something for everyone! Extremely cheap for a night out so you don't break the bank when you do go out as well. Newcastle is also a small city so there is no need to travel big distances from bar to bar.
I got involved in 11 and 5 a side football while working at pwc
