    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship with PwC in the assurance service line. I have had lots of opportunities to grow my existing skill set and adapt it to a more professional environment. It was been an extremely worthwhile experience and I would recommend anyone that is thinking about choosing a career in audit to apply for the internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Over the course of a 6 week period, and with no accounting experience, it is difficult for more senior members of staff to give you work without a lot of help and guidance. Although, when any work was completed everyone was extremely grateful and appreciated the work done. This meant I felt extremely valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As previously mentioned, when any work is given that you have no experience with, everyone is more than happy to offer guidance and support. A popular phrase at PwC is "There's no such thing as a stupid question" and this really shows by the way all members of staff will support each other.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied much dependant on who I was working with, with summer being the quiet season for PwC's assurance team, there isn't too much going on but people will always try and find work for you to do and some days I did feel a little stressed by the amount of work I had to finish.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the weeks went on, I was given more and more responsibility and it got to the point where I was thinking 'How am I being trusted to this!' but no matter what level you are, your work gets reviewed before it gets submitted to a client so as long as you can have a go at the work then you can.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • One of the biggest skills I've learnt during this internship is how to interact with clients, this will allow me to interact more professionally with lecturers. Beyond this, I will feel much more confident when walking into a grad job whether that be during an interview or in future client interactions.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was very friendly. Everyone is chatting in a friendly manner and many of my colleagues came around offering tea and coffee. You can tell that everyone at PwC gets on really well and everyone is really accommodating and welcoming with new starters. One of the best offices I've been to.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set up relatively well with the 6 weeks being utilised as best as possible in order for you and PwC to get the most out of having interns around. The first 3 days were spent at an induction in Windsor where we learnt many basic accounting principles followed by a two day office induction. This then leaves 5 weeks to get stuck into some real work.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm were very happy to invest in myself and other interns. As previously mentioned, all the interns spent 3 days in Windsor where we were split into groups with each group allocated two tutors. These tutors were then able to teach us the basics of accounting and answer and questions we had. We also had many e-learns to complete which are online courses that teach you new skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are appealing as the company was great and the internship very well organised which gives the impression of a good long term employer. At first we were told many interns would receive a grad job offer but following that we've been told there will be a delay so PwC can pick their favourites to offer positions to.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene at the office and nights out were a regular occurrence with at least one a month. The social events vary from drinks at a bar to 'sports day' style events so there really is something for everyone in this aspect. On top of this, between us interns we had a WhatsApp group where we remained in contact throughout.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living wasn't an issue at all, there are many universities near by so cheap student accommodation is always an option. Socialising in the area was the same as any big city and there were many events on including both cheap and free meaning there's something for everyone to take part in even on a budget.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is great. As is the case with many cities with universities nearby, there is a variety of clubs and bars to cater for everyone and there is always a new bar with a new experience for you to visit on every night out. There is also many theatres and live music venues nearby to enjoy.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a couple of opportunities for nights out organised by other members of staff.
