  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed my internship thoroughly. It has been exciting and I have learnt a lot.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued whilst at Lloyds Banking Group. I was placed within the legal team and they all made me feel very welcome throughout my time with them. At Lloyds Banking Group there is an agile working environment, so there is no obligation to be working ridiculous hours if you are able to get the work done quickly and well, although it is also nice to have a good routine whilst on your internship here as you learn a lot more by simply observing others. Additionally, I spent a lot of time shadowing other people in different departments, and there was not one department that I didn't feel welcome in. Everyone was very friendly!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been given a lot of support in the work tasks that I have been doing, however I have also had the chance to research and develop my skills myself rather than being given exact instructions for each task. This has meant that I have really developed time management and research skills whilst still providing quality work.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been busy most days. At the beginning of the internship there was a lot of mandatory training to be done which takes a lot of time and can be quite boring but is a necessity. From then on, it is really up to you how busy you make yourself. If you go out and seek out from people you will never be bored, and this is what I did. I spent a lot of time doing work for different legal teams, and my line manager was very supportive of this as there is always only so much your line manager has to be able to give to you.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I believe I was given the right balance of responsibility, as I never felt out of depth in the work that I was being instructed to do nor did I feel like I was doing useless work. I was normally assisting another lawyer on the work that they were doing, and working closely with them however was given my own tasks within these projects. This meant that I had the ability to spend time researching and producing my own work that was then going into a larger project which was very exciting.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a lot of useful skills for a career as a commercial lawyer, which is the career I hope to pursue. Some of these skills included the ability to research effectively, manage my time well and I developed a lot of confidence in the work place. Additionally, Lloyds Banking Group provide a lot of optional online training, such as the Professional Banker Course. This course allowed me to develop my knowledge of the financial services industry and the wider commercial industry, which will definitely help for any professional services career as I developed a lot of commercial awareness.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was very calm and welcoming. There were always people around me, and as there is a system of 'hot desking' at Lloyds Banking Group, I was moving around a lot which was good as I was able to chat with more people. Additionally, there was always something going on in my team, whether it be a legal quiz, lunch or volunteering day! Alongside this, a lot of fundraising goes on in Lloyds' offices, mainly undertaken by the interns over summer, so there were always bake sales and other fundraising activities going on!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As a Lloyds Scholar, I had been given information about my internship from the beginning of university so I believe I was very well prepared and given all the information they could have given me! I was able to contact my line manager a couple weeks before I started so was able to meet her and discuss my internship beforehand. This was definitely the best chance I could have been given before I started as this allowed me to learn more about the team and the work I would be doing before I turned up on the first day!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a full development programme organised for the legal interns whilst at Lloyds. This involved a three day placement at an international law firm, a full day course at another international law firm, group meetings with different lawyers from around the Group and a meeting with General Counsel [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] These opportunities were on top of the other training that we were given as interns, such as the professional banker course and online training.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, however the legal internship does not allow for a graduate programme referral as you must have completed your LPC before you apply for the programme which is a shame. Although, due to the contacts I made on my internship I believe that my application to Lloyds Banking Group would be favoured and I would have a high chance of being successful

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There have been a lot of social events organised, including two boat parties in London and a lot of fundraising activities! The highlight in Bristol was the Pub Rally, which is a must if you're an intern here at Canons House. On the downside of being placed in Bristol, most of the social activities do happen in London therefore it is up to you whether you spend the time and money travelling there and back. However, this again is personal preference and I have really enjoyed simply getting to know the other interns here in Bristol and we have been able to organise a lot of our own social fun!
