    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am 5 weeks into my 10 week internship and I have loved every moment. I have been given large responsibilities with communications for Finance Operations however all the set tasks have been manageable and I have been able to understand what and why I am doing the activities.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel as though I am an asset to the team as I haven't been told to just watch my colleagues or read emails but instead get involved and assist with their BAU on various tasks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers have set projects for me to achieve, and if I ever need help or assistance they have been more than happy to spend time going through the work with me.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have never just been sitting around with nothing to do, but I have never been made to feel stressed or worried about the workload. I have been set the right amount.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots of responsibility in the creation of reports, communications and data analysis for my team. I felt like there was little double checking, especially with the data analysis, and so if there is anything incorrect that gets noticed then I am slightly worried it would get back to me and I have full responsibility for it. However, it's nice to feel trusted and as an equal member of the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think it assisted much of my degree as Finance is unrelated to a science degree, however I would like to go into banking or business and so the internship has proved extremely beneficial in giving me skills, technique, and CV improvements.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and calm. Work-life balance is exceptional and I never thought I would see such flexibility in a working environment. Working from home is seen as a normal thing to do and they don't expect you to be there from early in the morning until late at night.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very structured. Skills sessions every fortnight and projects arranged by my team weekly. Only potential issue was that both my managers were on holiday during the 2nd and 3rd week of my placement and so I worked on my own. Thankfully they set me up in the first week with projects to continue with and so it wasn't a problem.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Finance Operations interns had skills sessions for an hour every fortnight but I know of no other interns which have had this. Apart from this there has been little official training but if you ask around colleagues are more than happy to teach you things.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Strongly considering applying for their graduate scheme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not in my location. In Bristol the accommodation they set up is quite isolated. Everyone has their own kitchen/bathroom which sounds good but it means you have few opportunity to meet other interns. No intern socials or meet ups have been arranged by Lloyds except the first day where all ~200 interns from all over the UK came together.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lloyds paid for all the accommodation. Cost of living/socialising was standard pricing. (Bristol).

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very strong but no one really organised many socials or outings.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • One was the Pub Rally but I was away for that night. I haven't heard of any other opportunities.
