    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship, it gave me an insight into professional services which previously I did not know much about. The team were so friendly, and the events organised for interns across the whole country were really fun and enabled you to meet lots of other people. I have learnt a lot.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my colleagues and everybody that I have worked with has made such an effort with me. They all took the time to get to know me and to ensure I was finding my work understandable. They always tried to challenge me which was great and I feel like I learnt a lot over the six weeks.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I spent more time with peopleof associate and executive level than managers. Managers seemed very busy and although they always spoke to me and were friendly, I don't think they seemed to have the time to pay attention to my work or give me work themselves. My people manager was great though, was always friendly and made an effort to involve me.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I was busier than others - it depended on who I was with or working with and what client I was on. Some people seemed reluctant to give me challenging work which meant I finished stuff very quickly and earlier than they expected so I often had to sit there and wait to be given more work. Others were better though and made sure they gave me challenging work to spend time on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was surprised with how much responsibility I was given. I was expecting to be monitored at all times or just shadowing people while they worked, as opposed to being given entire sections of an audit and trusted to complete them to a high standard. This made me feel valued and like they trusted my ability which i did not expect.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • If I was to get offered a graduate job in professional services, they will definitely help me and make me one step ahead I think than others without this experience. The workshop on presenting has given me skills for life and completely boosted my confidence which I never expected. This was one of the highlights of my experience which will stand me in good stead for my future

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office I was in was very friendly and everybody was very welcoming. They were a tight knit group but I got to know a lot of people and they all made an effort to involve me. however, there is a lot of change occurring in that office at the moment so there was a feeling of uncertainty amongst staff members which was sometimes a bit awkward for me as I didn't know what to say or when to not listen

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the internship as a whole was set up fantastically - the intern event in London was very well organised and very well run which made it fun and very useful. The workshop I attended was great and gave me skills for life, and across the whole time at GT everybody was so helpful and ensured everything ran smoothly for me and helped me if I had any problems

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested in me a huge amount. The money spent on the workshop at Bradenham and the time and effort that went into this was fantastic and it was definitely a highlight of my experience. They made such an effort to include everybody and ensured everybody got involved and had the same experience. I was pleasantly surprised by how much was organised for us which was great

    5/5

  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work for Grant Thornton, the business stands for great things and I think this was conveyed very well throughout my six weeks here. They value their employees and make 100% sure that nobody is overworked and are paid overtime if they are. The flexibility for moving around the business is great, ensuring there is a place for everybody. Everybody was so friendly

    The Culture

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Definitely. There were loads and loads of sports events organised, across the firm and in the office itself, and I was invited and encouraged to attend every single one, and people were very happy to help me with travelling to these. I was also invited to work drinks which was great to speak to people out of work. I have also been invited to the summer party in which people go out out of work, and is at the end of summer when my internship has finished
