About You
I enjoyed being able to experience working in two different departments within the firm. This provided me with a great insight into Squire Patton Boggs and the practice areas available in a commercial law firm. The scheme was very well organised and the introductory information provided on the first day was of great use throughout the scheme.
I completed work in relation to on going matters which made me feel very valued as I could see the impact that my work was having. I was also able to speak to a range of people from across the firm both in the office and at social events which helped me to feel like a valued part of the team very quickly.
My supervisors at Squire Patton Boggs achieved a great balance between providing a lot of support to help me understand the tasks I was completing but also allowing me to attempt the work for myself first. This was important to me as the support helped to develop my understanding of how the law is practically applied and I always knew that I could approach my supervisors with any question I had.
The insight I have had into the practical application of the law will assist me in my degree when considering the 'bigger picture' surrounding legal issues. I have also improved my confidence when dealing with complex tasks as I was able to research the issues and ask for help when necessary.
The Company
The vacation scheme at Squire Patton Boggs was very well structured. I was provided with a timetable at the beginning of the two weeks which clearly set out the dates of any meetings, assessments and socials. This booklet was so helpful to be able to refer to throughout the scheme.
The atmosphere at Squire Patton Boggs was very friendly and I was immediately made to feel like part of the team. I gathered the impression that people at the firm wanted me to succeed and were very willing to provide guidance in relation to my work or to provide an insight into the firm.
The vacation scheme provided a great insight into a full time career at Squire Patton Boggs. This was because the work I was given was similar to that of a trainee solicitor but I was also able to participate in social events organised by Squire Patton Boggs during my two week scheme.
Everything Else
Yes, there were many social events across the two weeks of my vacation scheme. There was a variety of events in terms of the type of event, such as meals, an escape room task and a party. The events also allowed me to meet a variety of people from across the firm.
The social events provided great networking opportunities as they were very varied. During the vacation scheme I attended events with the trainees working at the firm, the department I was working in and a whole office party. This allowed me to meet many people from across the firm which provided me with a greater insight into the firm's culture.
Yes, I had a great time on the vacation scheme as I was able to learn a lot about the firm. The work I was given was often 'real work' which developed my understanding of a career in commercial law and the social events provided a great insight into the culture at Squire Patton Boggs.
