    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed a great variety of activities. Went on many visits and had a broad range of meetings.

  • I felt that my project was making a difference and a helpful to the wider team project.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly catch ups with my manager. I would send my manager work I had completed to be reviewed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied. Some days I had lots of tasks to complete others were more quite. I had to manage my own time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was trusted to go to sites, representing the company alone. I was given a major part of the overall project to complete.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have improved my written communication skills, organisation skills, I have arranged meetings with a with employees in a wide variety of job roles to broaden my understanding of the company. This has increased my confidence. It has made me more confident about applying for graduate schemes and has confirmed that this is the industry in which I want to have a future career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was reasonably quite. People were working hard!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organised. There was an induction on day 1 which gave us an overview of the company and helped us to meet other interns. Then during the scheme we had a 'check in' with the placement organiser and and end of placement one on one review. We were also signed up to two training courses which helped our general development.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attened two training courses- relating to leadership and project management. I was sent of several trips in a broad range of locations within the UK to understand the variety of manufacturing sites some of which I was required to stay overnight for.

  • I would love to come back to the company as a graduate!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were encouraged to create a group message and go for a drink together on our first day. After that we became very close and frequently arranged socials for after work. It was also nice to have people to meet with on a lunch break

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fortunatly I was able to stay with friends during my internship so the cost of living was low, however for many fo the other interns this was a great expense. Fortunatly the company had given us a higher salary based on the fact that we were working in london.

  • Expensive but the options of places is very large.

  • There were social activities and some charity events.
