    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement with Hewlett Packard Enterprise as my job role was very varied. I found myself being thrown in to projects that have helped me grow as a person. The social aspect of HPE is also great, due to the fact that around 50+ interns are hired each year. There are always people to talk to and social events going on.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel very valued by my HPE colleagues and believe I am not just an "intern" but an integral part of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been very lucky to have had my managers sat around me on a day to day basis, meaning that I constantly gained valuable feedback on work that I completed and how I was developing as a person and in my role.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Many of the larger projects I worked on were events. I found myself very busy in "chunks" across the year when these particular events were taking place. In between events work would be a little bit more quiet, meaning that I was completing more admin tasks or taking the time out to develop my knowledge with training.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At around 7 months into the internship, my responsibility level drastically increased. I found myself running integral parts of events, such as social media promotion and managing the website build. I did not expect the level of responsibility that I was given. It is certainly one of those things, where if you put in the effort then you will gain the trust of colleagues to give you a higher responsibility level.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have learnt at HPE will leave me with the confidence that I can complete the rest of my degree to a high standard and put me in with the competition for future job roles. Some of the experiences I have gained are invaluable.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At the start of placement all interns, new & old, are in the office meaning that it is super busy and the buzz is great! Throughout the year the office goes through phases, depending what time it is in the quarter. It does also depend on where you are sat in the office.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I believe that the internship set up was well organised. I felt at ease transitioning from university to working life. There was always someone willing to help.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a lot of training that was available for me to take time out a complete. It was advised taking around an hour a week to develop my learning further.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • For what I am looking for, I don't believe HPE will fulfil my job needs. However, if you are interested in sales then the company has many great opportunities.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As HPE hires 50+ interns each year, there are always social events that you can get involved in if you would like. The interns would always be very much involved in all site charity events, which adds another social aspect.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Reading was fairly pricey, especially as it is so close to London. It seems the more people you share a house with the cheaper rent, bills, etc is.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are so many bars & restaurants in Reading and few pubs in the surrounding Bracknell area, near the office.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Most opportunities were in work.
