About You
I really enjoyed the insight at RBC this year due to the way it was set up allowing us to be involved with many different activities without rushing them. From meeting heads of divisions in sales and trading, research, equities capital markets and debt capital markets I gained a real understanding of what RBC does.
I felt very valued during my time at Royal Bank of Canada and appreciated all the help I was given. From the outset we were given as much help as possible whilst allowing us to learn so much about the firm. The people who interviewed us were very high up but also came across like they valued us and wanted to get involved with helping us as much as they possibly could.
During the insight we had 2 members of recruitment taking us round the Royal Bank of Canada complex and they gave us so much support and would try and speak to every person to learn more about what they wanted and how they could help. Also the people giving speeches were so supportive and were happy to take on any questions asked.
I wouldn't say it helped with degree studies but it helped with deciding which division of the an investment I would want to go into. We had a clear insight into each division from people high up in the firm. As it was a day it was hard to really develop much as they wanted to give us as much as we possibly could however I believe the presentation allowed me to improve my communication skills.
The Company
The insight by Royal Bank of Canada was very well structured as it was only for one day but so much was fit in. We got speeches from heads of division where we also could ask questions, divisions including sales and trading, research, equities capital markets and debt capital markets.
The general atmosphere during the insight was positive and definitely felt like we were put first and were important at the firm. All interns with me were very positive and excited to learn more about the divisions such as sales and trading, research, equities capital markets and debt capital markets.
We got to speak and listen to people from heads of division from RBC such as sales and trading, equity capital markets, debt capital markets and research and they gave us an insight into how they run their team and the structure of their teams. So we understood more about how each person effects the team and the sort of hours they do and work load.
The insight allowed me to learn so much about the company culture and that was one of the most significant things about the insight. The graduates had interned at other firms and were able to compare the culture between others and Royal Bank of Canada. What I learned about the culture was very important and I feel it set Royal Bank of Canada away from a lot of other firms.
Everything Else
Royal Bank of Canada paid adequately for there experience and reimbursed expenses up to £100. So travelling from London was not a problem and they were even willing to include in that cost accommodation. One critique is that I have not received my expenses yet nearly 2 months on but I have been assured my issue will be dealt with.
We were able to meet people high up at Royal Bank of Canada from many different divisions across the firm such as sales and trading, equity capital markets, debt capital markets and research. Also we got taken round their trading desks where traders spoke to us about there day to day role. At the end we were also able to network with recently employed analysts.
Listening to people from there divisions at Royal Bank of Canada such as sales and trading, equity capital markets, debt capital markets and research we also got to learn about what they did outside of work. Royal Bank of Canada has lot's of clubs and activity days for almost everything.
