    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight discovery day at BP in Sunbury very much! I learned a lot and feel like it was a great learning resource for interviews and assessment centres in the future. The discovery day was for BP scholars only and was a full day event comprising of talks, presentations, tours, networking, practice interviews and assessment centre training.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt like I was valued during my time at BP in Sunbury they have a very modern training centre where the event was hosted called the Upstream Learning Centre. They catered to all my needs and provided transport to and from the event which was very kind. The staff and other students were all extremely friendly and welcoming.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The whole event was based on giving us scholars more information about BP and how they run as a company, the guidance they gave us about the company was offered through numerous talks and presentations from interns working at the company and graduates who have been there a bit longer. Their knowledge about the company and the culture there was very interesting to hear and made me want to work for them even more.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received will be invaluable to me in the future when applying to the internship program and to the graduate scheme at BP. It will also help me in general with interviews and assessment centres as the practice sessions that we did taught me a lot about how those assessments are run and what BP expects from their candidates.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was very well structured with a full day of planned talks, presentations and tours with everything going smoothly and seamlessly. The event was planned far in advance and the communication from the recruitment team regarding any questions I had was always promptly responded to. Lunch was provided for us and as an extra treat during that break we got to network with some staff from BP including some current interns working over the summer. Talking to them was one of the highlights of the day as the information and experiences they shared with us gave me a great understanding of what the company culture is like within BP.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very welcoming and I really felt at home while at the event the other students were all very friendly and since everyone came from all over the UK there was a lot for us all to discuss. We were all from mixed disciplines so not everyone was studying the same subject which made the day a lot more interesting as everyone had different questions to ask when prompted.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave me lots of great information to help with interview skills and assessment centre training which will be very valuable to me in the future not just for BP but for any company I interview with in the future. They also helped to dispel some of the mystery surrounding these events and explained how they worked and what was expected of me which will calm my nerves greatly while undertaking these tasks in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The talks and presentations from the current interns and graduates working at BP at the moment were very insightful and gave me an understanding of what it is like working for them and how I would be able to fit into the company if I ended up working there in the future.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Networking with some staff from BP including some current interns working over the summer and some full time long term staff gave us a great insight to the company culture talking to them was one of the highlights of the day as the information and experiences they shared with us gave me a great understanding of what the company culture is like within BP.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I already know my main career path and this day was more about learning about the company than it was about finding the correct career path. It did allow me to find out that since BP is such a massive company there are a lot of opportunities to be taken which means if I did end up working for them that there is a very large range of things I could work on within the same team or department.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed for all expenses and given food and drinks for free for the whole day.

  • Yes as mentioned above.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were a mixture of informal conversions with staff and other members of the BP team and formal presentations from staff and inters who gave us plenty of opportunities to ask any questions we liked.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, there are many different clubs and societies to get involved in within BP as it is such a large company there is something to suit everyone. We learned that there is an exclusive fishing club at a man-made quarry in Sunbury with a large waiting list to get in.
