    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year. it has been a year of learning and growing. I learnt so much about end to end recruitment which is something I had a major interested in at university. So actually getting to see this in practice was very interesting and is something I feel I can use on my return to university. Also the environment and culture of Hays is one of continuous training of employees which I felt was great as there was always some thing new to learn and become an expert in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In the beginning , valued was something I did not feel. as I felt that I was just getting things wrong and getting shouted at instead of being shown properly how to do time. This is something I spoke up about which then resulted in me moving offices. After moving office I then begun to feel part of a team , I feel this is when I really saw growth in myself, as the environment I was in was so much more positive, instead of just receiving negative comments all the time. My new office really boosted my confidence and improved my telephone manner and professional.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance by management was something I did not received , as in the my first week I was left alone to get on with things by myself. if you can imagine coming in to company and not know anything then having to run a desk alone , it was quite nerve racking. This is when things begun to go wrong as I would just have to guess things due to not having proper management. However after moving offices new management was then put in place. My new management was amazing , she really had my back and would take the time to teach and show me things I did not understand. Also instead of just seeing the negatives, she would often praise me for my positives. This really create lovely working atmosphere.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On daily basis I would be quite busy as I run a whole desk. so this would involve calling client and candidates. Filling jobs ,completing compliance , interviewing candidates, after caring the candidates I had working for me. Although we work long hours sometimes it felt like the days weren't long enough. On the flip side because it was a public sector desk it did have its times where it was not be busy at all which just made the days longer.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was giving a lot of responsibility which I at times was fine as it kept me busy, but at times got a bit overwhelming and to much for me to handle. As I had to do my own stuff to keep my desk running but then my pervious manager would then add other people compliance for me to do which would then have an effect on my desk. She would then complain, I just felt like I couldn't win really with her. I feel like the amount of responsibility I had was a great insight into the real world , especially as I want to get in to managerial role after university. This helped me to priorities my work load and mange my time accordingly.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skill I have learnt here will help me for finial year massively. for example I feel like my essay writing skills will be greatly improved due to the increase in my professional and communicating with candidates and client frequently over emails. This meant my writing had to be up to stands at all times in order to communicate efficiently. A further example is my confidence in public speaking e.g. presentation as this job was very telephone based as result my verbal communication really improved as when I initially started I would often speak very informal and use colloquial language, this has all changed .

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Hays really invest in there employee from the beginning. From the start I was giving a training guide to aide my on the on job training which was very in tense as it really meant I got to see everything first hand and in working practices. I feel like this really helped to embed the information in my mind. This worked alongside the e learning which incorporated various modules, this aspect helped to show why we do things in the first place. I feel like when I understand 'why ' I can better implement the action.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although I have really enjoy my time here at hays. I don't think recruitment is for me. I have learnt so much , I still love finding the right person for the right job. From this experience I have learnt that HR is something I would love to get into. if a position within the HR department at Hays came about I would definitely jump at the chance. This because Hays is a lovely company who really invest in there employees development, this is something I would love to continue to be part of.
