    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed getting to experience the inside of the firm, each firm's website is impressive so it was interesting to see why Squire Patton Boggs stand out from its competitors from an insider's perspective. The vac schemers were treated well by everyone and given a lot of respect despite me a lot lower down the hierarchy which facilitated my enjoyment of my time there.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt as valued as a vac schemer could be, obviously everyone is really busy with their own work but everyone took time out to explain a bit about themselves if you asked them to. There were times where I was just reading up on some legislation or news which was more valuable for my personal development than valuable for the firm but it's understandable that I'm not qualified enough to have tasks which are too important.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Everyone was more than happy to take time out to explain the tasks which I was given, even if they had not given me the task themselves which was nice. Everyone was supportive in calming may down and giving me their top tips for giving a good impression before my interview which gave me the impression that they genuinely cared.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • We were given two very comprehensive booklets one of which gave us tasks to complete and one of which was more aimed at making our time there easier. There was a page with all the vac schemers' faces and names on which was useful when someone's name escapes you! There was a timetable of everything we were doing and the contact information for people who could help if we needed. the tasks also helped the structuring of the insight because they kept us busy if there was a lull in the work we were given by our supervisors.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone I spoke to was friendly, there was an excited atmosphere as everyone anticipated the annual summer party which was a good way to get to know the people in the firm. I spent a week in corporate which had a very busy atmosphere, with three completions going on in the week I was there, there were people running up and down the corridors.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The coincidence of the summer party with the vacation scheme meant that we were able to see the exact culture. I saw that the corporate team were given champagne at the end of the week to celebrate their success in their closures. The company's ethics and culture was clear to see.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Not only did this week cement my decision to go into the corporate side of the law but it also helped to cement my decision to work in Leeds rather than London. So far my experience had been predominantly criminal so it was interesting to see 'how the other half live'.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • During our first lunch time at the firm we had a welcome lunch which gave us an opportunity to network within the firm straight away. After the initial small talk subsided there was a good chance to get to know the people, their path to Squire, their niche or specialisation.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The summer party was so much fun, we were in teams, we dressed up, we played games, we ate burgers, we chatted. It was a great social event and an opportunity to get to know partners and trainees alike. Aside from the summer party, there were other events such as welcome and farewell lunches which were great for networking.
