About You
I enjoyed it exceedingly because it gave me very good insight into what life is really like in a top City law firm.
I felt like I was encouraged to speak up and my opinion was welcome.
The support was okay.
It definitely helped in interviews after the vacation scheme ended.
The Company
It was very well structured.
The office was quite intense but the feeling of adrenaline was quite contagious.
I think they invested a lot of time in making sure I understood the work and ensuring that I was able to follow all the events that were occurring in the various transactions that I was (tangentially) involved in.
Excellent. I was given work by associates, partners and trainees from the get-go and was given full briefings before attending any client meetings.
It gave me a decent insight into the company culture but each practice group has a different sub-culture so it is difficult to generalise.
It was very valuable in allowing me understand what life in Shearman is like and in deciding that this is a career path that I wanted to pursue further.
Everything Else
I was paid about £700 for the 2 weeks.
Yes. There were Question and Answer sessions with trainees and associates from different practice areas. We were also encouraged to seek out people in the practice areas that we were interested in - HR was also happy to get involved in arranging those meetings if need be.
They were fun. We had a day out to Duck and Waffle and had a cooking class.
Not really. We heard from the Pro Bono director though.
I definitely would recommend to anyone.
