    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I absolutely loved my time at Taylor Wessing. The organisation of the scheme was seamless, and the actual work done was brilliant. I felt at home in this organisation and felt like I gained true insight. The office definitely has its own distinct personality which can be best gauged by partaking in such schemes.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued in this organisation. Everyone was incredibly open and friendly, from my peers, to the trainees, associates, partners as well as the graduate recruitment team. Taylor Wessing truly make you feel valued as an individual and not just a part of a wider group. After a couple of days I already felt like I was on my way to my second home.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Every person I came in contact with provided me with a lot of guidance and support, both professionally regarding the tasks at hand, as well as personally, by allowing me to discuss my career aspirations, and providing me with insight as to how said aspirations align with Taylor Wessing and the work done.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This was my first true exposure to law in practice. From the insight sessions, to the exercises, the team work, and the work done in our seats, I gained invaluable knowledge of the corporate legal space. I was taught both seat-specific skills, as well as high-level legal market information. By the end of the scheme I felt like I had better understanding of the workings of Taylor Wessing and the legal career as a whole.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight structure was seamless. We were all very aware of how the two weeks were going to go, and what was expected of us at each session. We were aware of our supervisors and our placement seats well in advance, and had the ability to ask questions throughout the scheme to anyone who could help clarify. We had constant contact with graduate recruitment both prior to the scheme as well as during the two weeks.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I was sat in Private Client and IP & Media. In both seats, the office was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The work itself was engaging and thoroughly explained, so you could see how you were adding value by completing it. The socials were super fun from beginning to end, and the trainees were bubbly and open.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Our first-day induction was very useful, as we learned about the computer systems and naming conventions supported by the firm. Although we didn't receive any hands on training, we did partake in department-specific exercises which helped us engage with what the firm does on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, through our preparation for the final presentation exercise, it was made evident to us that many of the people in the firm were willing to take their time out to help us both with our content and our style. For a vacation scheme, Taylor Wessing's investment in our personal development was more than I expected.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • As we were a small intake, the work we were doing had a direct impact on the work of the trainees and associates we were paired up with. As such, we hit the ground running and were immediately presented with an inside view of what it is like working at Taylor Wessing. Furthermore, our work with the trainees meant we were able to ask them questions about their personal experiences at the firm, which provided an even deeper insight into what a full time role entails.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • My answer to this is similar to my previous response. As we hit the ground running from day 1, we really were immersed in the company and its culture. We had exposure to the whole working body of the firm from day 1, and as such were well-placed to gauge what the culture is like and what the personality of the firm is.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I very much enjoyed my time working in the legal sector, and so my experience confirmed by understanding that being a solicitor is the right career for me. Furthermore, working at Taylor Wessing, and being able to compare it to other schemes, it very much confirmed my interest in the industries Taylor Wessing focuses on. Furthermore, it helped me find the right-sized firm which is the best "fit" for me as an individual.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Very well-paid 9-5 days.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had networking or social opportunities almost every day, either officially scheduled or independently organised. We had the chance to meet and mingle with not only graduate recruitment, but also trainees, associates and partners. The networking opportunities ranged from welcome drinks, to lunches, to rooftop dinners, to trips to cocktail bars and darts clubs.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As aforementioned, we were not short of social opportunities, which ranged from welcome drinks, to lunches, to rooftop dinners, to trips to cocktail bars and darts clubs. The wide range of environments allowed us to understand the culture of the firm both in a professional but also in a social setting. The actual socials themselves were great fun, not only because of the venue choices, but because those who work at Taylor Wessing are great company.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Taylor Wessing is a very socially-conscious and socially-oriented firm. This means there are a lot of pro-bono opportunities, as well as purely social outlets. From charity work, to pro bono, to choirs, to sports, Taylor Wessing has it covered.
