Summer Vacation Scheme student Review

I really enjoyed the vacation scheme and was amazed by how much I learnt and developed during the two weeks. There are also plenty of social events on the scheme, including being taken to have champagne on the London Eye, making it extremely enjoyable.

The graduate recruitment team make a real effort to make sure the interns felt valued by organising lots of social events for us.

The first department I sat in was quite busy and I did feel at times that I was a burden/had to be babysat as they (quite fairly) had more important things to do. However, my supervisor/trainee buddy did make the effort to check on me every day to ask how I was doing and also invited me for a team meeting. The second department I sat in was more relaxed. Due to the nature of the work, they were also able to keep me quite busy. My supervisor/trainee buddy also checked on me every day and invited me to meetings, during which I was also allowed to contribute. There was also an effort to make me aware of the various matters in the department, so I had the opportunity to learn even where I could not contribute.

Having work experience was extremely helpful as it helped me develop my soft skills and confidence for any future workplace. I also learnt how to use photocopying machines and there was IT and information services training.

Extremely well structured with a timetable offered in advance. The social events are well spread out.

Most of the interns got along and were nice to each other, even organising to go out together at the end of the scheme.

A lot - there was IT training and information services training. There was also a HR training session on personal brand. They organised talks with partners and associates, who were able to provide us with a picture of what a career as a lawyer is like.

For obvious reasons, vac schemers are less busy than trainees as they do not have long term involvement on any matters.

Actually working there and being able to speak to people from all sides of the firm was very helpful.

It definitely confirmed my desire to train to become a lawyer in the City.

I was paid at the market rate.

Plenty - lots of different talks and opportunities to network even if you did not sit in the department.

Excellent - the farewell event felt special.

Learnt about the various pro bono opportunities, sports teams and extra curricular activities from my trainee buddy.
