About You
It was a well-structured, one day event.
BP HR team were very interested and kind in welcoming and throughout the whole day.
HR team and the other members of the program (e.g. guest speakers, lunchtime visitors from other departments at BP) were very informative about their company.
Practicing interview skills was a very valuable session for me to polish my skills in that area.
The Company
It was quite good structured, not too long sessions, enough breaks, and many activities involved during the day.
It was a very relaxing atmosphere inside.
From what I have seen, they really put great efforts on attracting new and young talents. Currently, I am not sure if I am going to apply to their graduate programs yet, though it is very obvious that they value their employees, and according to what they said, there are many personal training and development opportunities both in UK and worldwide offices.
I understood that to get a feeling and idea of which role you are in, it normally requires you to stay in that role at least 18 months at BP, as the company is very matrix structured and huge in size. So, it needs time for you to see the big picture and in which part are you in of it.
It really helped me a lot to see the culture inside. As I noticed, they work hard and play hard.
It was full of activities (ice-breaker/guest speakers/graduate program employee presentations/simulation game and practicing interview skills-together with a feedback session)
Everything Else
All of my accommodation and travel expenses (up to 100 pounds) are going to be paid to me as they inform us about that well advance.
There were some employees from other departments, but it can be improved. Maybe more staff can attend.
Networking was available during lunch time. In each table, there was a staff from other departments. It was good but as I said earlier, it was not so impressive and enough in a number of employees attending.
Yes, there was a gym facility inside the BP Sunbury-on-Thames. Other than that, there is some diversity and equality volunteer groups (e.g. BP Pride UK, BP accessibility) that employees could participate.
I would recommend this insight (discovery) day to anyone else who is interested in a career at a multinational energy company.
