About You
Very much so. It was the best insight I have received into the legal profession to date.
I felt valued because I was entrusted with genuine work which the firm was undertaken and learnt from my experiences of doing so, improving on a case by case basis.
The system of having a trainee/associate buddy was particularly helpful because it gave an insight into what life at the firm was like and advice on how to manage time etc.
I learnt how to draft documents in my Real Estate seat such as a licence to assign, deed of variation etc. I developed and honed several other skills such as time management, working as part of a team and my communication.
The Company
There was a perfect mix between social events, opportunities to meet trainees, associates and partners, and also assessment. The chances to meet employees were particularly useful in understanding the culture of the firm.
It was a fun and enjoyable atmosphere during the insight.
The firm invested in me as much as was fit, considering that I was only there for two weeks. I was not given ownership on tasks but they were instead subsidiary to other sections of a larger case.
It was incredibly insightful in this regard. Largely because of the work I took but also chatting to trainees providing an understanding of their day to day role and how much the firm truly values them.
The culture was central to Squire Patton Boggs and it is something which I believe I have only truly come to understand since I have directly experienced the firm.
At this stage of my career I am already decided that I would like to be a solicitor and thus this experience was not particularly valuable in deciding my future career path. It did serve to reinforce this belief however and get my thinking into what type of law I would like to go into.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities to network, in both a social and professional sense. The firm was great in providing these opportunities.
They were valuable but also a lot of fun. For example, we went to a darts bar, made dim sum and also had an internal quiz! The perfect amount of socials considering the assessment and department work.
There were talks every morning from associates which helped in this regard. But also just chatting to employees and asking questions along these lines.
I would 100% recommend this insight scheme to a friend of mine.
