    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The week was insightful and enjoyable. The firm provided us with many activities to do to keep us interested so that we did not get bored, and we had an hour every day for lunch which was pleasant as it allowed us time to relax and get to better know the people sharing the same experience with us in a more relaxed environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • One day of the week we took part in a shadowing scheme which seemed daunting at first but there were very inclusive and kept including me in the conversations, making sure I was keeping up to speed with the topic of conversation, and I did tasks, albeit menial, that were actually used in slideshows that they used when presenting to a large client.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The whole week we had support, and were given contact details so that we could let the leaders know if we ever had problems or even just questions about our role or activities in the week there. Throughout the day we would get checked in on to make sure we were comfortable with what we were doing and understood our tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt were not particularly relevant to my course as I do economics so there is not much crossover between technology and what I am currently learning. On the business side however there are lots of aspects that relate to micro-economics, so I got to see the consulting side of things and how businesses run from the inside. So it was not a fault of the insight week itself merely the misalignment between my course and the insight week.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The week was excellently structured, at the beginning of the week we were given an itinerary and then every day we were told the activities that would be happening throughout the day and the times that all these activities would occur. The only issue I would say is that sometimes they would overestimate the amount of time the tasks would take so we would be left waiting around sometimes, but this was still pleasant to have an extra break.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The firm was very warm and welcoming, everyone was happy to engage with us no matter how high up the hierarchy they were. People were very happy to answer our questions, no matter how relevant or how informal, and then often provided us with their emails afterwards so that we could get into further contact with them if need be. The other people partaking in the insight week too were very friendly and made the whole overall experience very enjoyable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The programme was only a week long so there was not that much time for them to invest in our own personal development and training. We did have one or two courses on our own personal brand and general soft skill workshops which were insightful but at the same time it was information i already knew generally so it was not particularly useful to me personally.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This was an excellent insight into the corporate world and the way a business works from the inside. It was interesting to see how many different roles there were even just in the technology consultancy department that we were involved in. The work shadowing in particular gave an excellent idea as to what the world of work will be like in the future as we were treated with respect and were fully engaged with rather than just being left to trail around and be seen and not heard.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight helped me understand the company culture as it really showed me how welcoming the KPMG firm is, the graduates in particular stressed to us how helpful the teams were in developing our skills, if we did not have the technical knowledge going in there would be lots of on the job training to allow us to grow and develop in the paths that we chose.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Going into the insight week I had no prior knowledge of technology and didn't realise how many job opportunities there would be with such an expansive range of roles. I am definitely considering a future career in technology consultancy after this insight week as it has greatly increased my interest in the sector.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • yes, many
