    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at Computacenter for many reason. One of the main reasons being the people that work here. The majority of people are so welcoming and are very willing to help and support. I have also enjoyed gaining a better understanding of the field I want to pursue a career in and it has given me invaluable experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most of the time I felt valued and the ones that I felt valued by were always the ones that would go above and beyond to help and support me. However there were some people that I didn’t feel valued by so it was very mixed between colleagues and the level these colleagues were at.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • It was very mixed as to what support and guidance I would get. I wasn’t always given support for personal development and if I was it was a struggle to get it.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work flow would differ depending on what team I was working with. The majority of time I was busy most of the time and when I wasn’t busy I found things to work on. The times I weren’t so busy I was able to catch up on university work or other projects and there was no issue with this.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility and was relied on a lot for certain projects and areas of work. I believe I was trusted and was given the autonomy to complete tasks. I was also given responsibility fairly early on in my placement year, was I believe was good for my development.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the soft skills I have learnt will definitely help me when I return to university and help me succeed in my degree. Computacenter have also been very helpful in terms of giving me assistance with ideas for my research project and provided me with contacts who I will be able to discuss research with.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The majority of the time the atmosphere was good and people respect each other. I do however think that there is sometimes bickering and this can make it a little bit uncomfortable to be around but this is normally resolved fairly quickly. It’s a supportive and fun environment and everyone means well.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the beginning it seemed to be very well organised and a plan was put into place. This plan however did unfold a little throughout the year and at times I felt like I didn’t know what team I was meant to be in at each time, but overall it was organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This was limited, I didn’t receive any training until the very end which I had to push for and I don’t think I would have received any training unless I had pushed for it. Also I wasn’t given any objectives which would have been useful, so I set them myself.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It would be a place I would return to but I am unsure if there would be a job for me and the work life balance isnt very good.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This would be the best part of my placement year. The other placement students were so friendly I do believe that I have made some friends for life! This was really supported by our induction week where we all spent some time together getting to know each other before we moved into our departments. We have continued to socialise with each other throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Hatfield as a place is really expensive to live with not a lot going on in it. I wouldn’t recommend the area even if it is close to London.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a weather spoons and that is all, this is not a place you would come to socialise! The surrounding areas are okay and it is close to London but Hatfield itself is awful!!

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Every now and then there would be nights set up to socialise with the teams but not a lot.

    2/5
