    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Initially the placement was not as enjoyable, when there were less tasks delegated to students and less responsibility. A couple of months in, with defined roles the placement b came a lot more enjoyable and was much better hands on experience

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Definitely included as part of the team and valued as a team member in my department. After the initial stage was trusted with various tasks within my department, and helping others on their projects was appreciated.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Advice and support always available from all members of my department in Engineering. I was given support by my manager and assigned a 'mentor' in th department to aid me with tasks and set me work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had regular tasks to be completed, if I keep on top of them I always have work to do. On top of this working on various projects, small and large kept me engaged.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Slowly increased, was minimal at the beginning of placement. After having a defined role and developing a better understanding I was trusted with much more work and important tasks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained a lot of transferable skills. Organisation, team work, communication, tim mannagement and project management are some which I will be able to use along my degree and future career path.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a positive vibe in my office and good relationships between colleagues. The engineering department in particular, which I was a part of, had a string team mentality and was an enjoyable group to work with

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement could have been organised better in terms of handover from the previous student. More instructions and descriptions of tasks would have been beneficial. I feel the placement is occasionally influenced too much by HR than your relevant department.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given time and advice by my colleagues and included in various workshops throughout the year. However, there was no specific training courses or off site experiences.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I believe I would work for the company again, as it is very well established and there are many exciting opportunities. However I have been out off the manufacturing side and the particular site I worked at

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are a good number of students on each site and across the uk. This makes it easy and viable to socialise and still maintain a good student interaction and social life when on placement.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lichfield was not particularly expensive compared to other parts of the country. However there were not many things to do without travelling outside the city.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Lichfield was not great compared to what I have experienced at university etc. However, Birmingham is much better and only 20 minutes away.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There have been limited out of work events organised through the company. Only one family fun day which currently looks to have minimal people attending.
