    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Job was interesting but slow at first.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Whilst I was given responsibility I was seen as the student, so was given a lot of the work no one waned to do at times.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Manager and rest of the department were always helpful and available when needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Although this varied on average I was quite busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Some of the tooling projects undertaken were challenging and involved a lot of hard work to reach the deadline.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The CAD and excel skills developed will be transferable to my degree.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The team I was working in got on with one another well creating a good environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the start it was unclear at what was required however this improved throughout the year as I began to understand my role more.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Whilst I have taken part in in-plant training activities I haven't been sent on any training courses specifically.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Whilst I don't think I want to work within manufacturing I would like to work on more of the design side of the process.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, living near to FIS the other manufacturing plant in Fradley there are lot of students living near to one another.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Where I lived - Lichfield is quite an expensive area and there isn't a lot to do, so a lot of money was spent traveling away on the weekends.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lichfield has good pubs but not very good nightlife, birmingham isn't far away but is a bit more effort to go to.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not from the company itself, but there are local leisure centres and gyms around.
