    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • During my 12 months at Virgin Media I have developed as a person by improving my skillset by having invaluable corporate experiences.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The extent to how valued I feel depends on the group of people. My fellow Interns value my input by listening to what I have to say and I have had feedback on two events I have organized for them outside of my day-to-day role. When discussing the team I work in, the valued felt depends on the project. Our team has gone through an organizational restructure and the work delegation has varied. I have had the opportunity to lead in projects and felt extremely valued, however, on the other hand I have also been given tasks that I haven't enjoyed as much and have felt less valued as the work didn't play to my strengths.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have had really good support from my manager, team members and Interns. I have had monthly 1v1 with my manager discussing feedback on the previous months work addressing what I have done well and what I should work to improve on. Secondly my team members have been really helpful by answering any question I may have on the technical detail of projects and any Virgin Media queries I have in general. Finally, I have had support from fellow Interns, for example, an Analyst Intern helped me with Microsoft Excel questions I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My team have gone through an organizational restructure, therefore the concentration of our work changed which had an affect on my workload. My boss ensured I had work at all times however there were times when I had work that I didn't enjoy/wasn't motivated to produce and times were I had very little work but asked the team if they needed any support to find more work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility levels I have been given ranges from leading a new app development project to supporting other team members with finer details.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained invaluable experiences throughout this year learning key business approaches such as identifying your audience and knowing what level of detail to go into when in discussion, to have the initiative approach with all projects set whether you like the work or not and to take responsibility for your own career as you have to be the main driver and not your manager.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Virgin Media as a company has a very friendly atmosphere and I have felt welcome by everyone in all the sites I have visited over the last 12 months.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Internship scheme as a whole has been very well organized including quarterly training sessions to improve our corporate perspective and an Graduates and Interns day to celebrate our achievements. However the only flaw is that as Interns we were given very little time between being told the Graduate Scheme opportunities to when the application deadline was.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been allowed to take part in all the training I have requested, this includes quarterly training days with all the Interns, Lean Sigma training, Contact Centre experience and visiting other departments that interested me such as the Commercial and Marketing Department in Hammersmith.

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The Internship allows us to be fast tracked in the Graduate Scheme application which I have applied for and hope that my application is successful. The Graduate scheme allows you to do 4 6 month placements to work in different areas of the company.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
