    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was really good. Friendly people and variety of work and experiences. Got to work closely with a Partner.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt like I was useful and people were happy to get me involved in the work. It didn't feel like they were searching for something for me to do.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Great support from the team I sat with as well as HR staff. Regular talks meant you could also touch base regularly with fellow vac schemers.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the vac scheme was less about developing skills as it was only two weeks. It was more about getting to experience what life would be like as a trainee solicitor. Having said this, my research skills are improving and I believe that is a regular task for trainees.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I enjoyed the regular talks. There was also a number of social events planned.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Great! Very friendly and enthusiastic. Also everyone was laid back. I felt the trainees spoke honestly about their experiences.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We got training in IT to understand software. I think the vac scheme is less about developing skills and more about experiencing life as a solicitor and working in a law firm.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • In two weeks you are of course limited in what you can get involved in, but I think that talking to trainees definitely gave me an idea of what it would be like. Also some of the tasks I was given, such as research and putting together documents gave me a flavour of life as a trainee. I also got to meet clients and get involved in phone calls to them. I think this gave me a good idea about what life as a solicitor is like.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Lots of opportunities to talk to trainees which gave a real insight to company culture,

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Further confirmed that I want to do international commercial law

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Paid well

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Lots of opportunities to meet people and talk to trainees. In terms of the seats I sat in the people in the team were always happy to talk to me

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Good fun and just the right amount. I know some vac schemes have socials every night that you are expected to attend but the vac scheme can be tiring so I think that having 2 evening socials 1 each week and then some lunches was the perfect amount as it did not leave me feeling exhausted in the day.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were told about the sports teams and CRS programmes/ probono opportunities.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I had a great experience, I got really involved with the teams and tasks were really varied.

    5/5
