    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been one of the busiest years so far, but also one of the best. Going to work every day instead of going to university was a big change, however, I had one of the best years in my life. All the new skills that I learnt and all the knowledge is incredible, it has changed me as a person, not just professionally but also personally. I have gained more confidence, met great people and expanded my professional network.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were not just supportive and treating me like an intern but they have always allowed me to add value and complete the task my way, without any guidance if I feel comfortable with it. They were always willing to listen to my opinion and take it into consideration when making decisions.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and all other members of the team were willing to help me whenever I needed help. They would take time from their busy schedules and spend it teaching me and guiding me to the right direction. Everyone here wants you to grow not only as a professional but as an individual too. They ensure that you leave your work placement with many new skills and knowledge.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every day in SAP is completely different and you can never predict it in the morning. Some days are quieter and some days are busier. In your quiet days, you can get involved in new projects and activities, In your busy days, you are challenged and sometimes have to go over your comfort zone to achieve maximum results. However, all your work is very appreciated and recognised. I think it's the right balance, and often it is up to you how busy you are, as you can always take on more projects if you feel like you want to do something more.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In the marketing team, you are not seen as just an intern who is just here to do the boring work. You are given a lot of responsibility and accountability. In some cases, you have to manage an event or campaign by yourself (of course you can get help if you need it). In the team meetings, you can always express your opinion freely and it will always be taken into account. You definitely learn how to be responsible and how to gain people's trust.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During my placement year, I had to complete few assignments for my university. I felt that my writing skills have definitely improved, as well as my critical thinking ability. I have managed to get excellent grades and I feel that I am much more ready for my final year. I will be able to use my new skills and most importantly all the knowledge that I gained working in the technology industry.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere varies from time to time. Some days are quite when many people are on holiday, some days (like quarter end) are extremely busy when sales are closing deals. General atmosphere is great, you can find yourself in Costa drinking coffee and having a chat with a colleague, playing pool, having a break in the sun and much more.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The whole placement schemed was very organised and very well planned for you. There was a good onboarding plan once I started, followed by regular one to one meetings with the manager to ensure that nothing is missing and I am happy with everything. The fact that previous interns are here for a month once you join is very helpful as you have 4 weeks to learn from them and ask any questions.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a lot of free courses available to everyone. They vary from a day to few weeks long. For placement students there are regular offsite training days organised where we get an inspirational speaker to lead the day, followed by some activities. These are very useful and allows you to learn new skills, as well as enjoy your day out. With your 30%, you are able to work in another department of your choice.

If not, many doors are open for you now as spending 13 months in SAP gives you the most valuable skills and experience which you can take anywhere.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Socialising is a very important part of your placement. With a big group of interns, there is always something going on, Ranging from Thursday drinks to even going abroad together. The same is with the team, we have had many days out, including a big Christmas party.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is a very expensive city, however, the office is Located in zone 6 where living costs are a little lower. Lots of interns live close by the office meaning that they don't spend as much on rent as when living in the city centre. Socialising can also be cheaper, areas like Richmond are especially very popular among the interns.

  • 1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in volunteering. These are fun days out where you volunteer with your team members or fellow interns. Those opportunities never stop, you can get involved in activities such as volunteering in Africa for a week, to volunteering locally. There are also many team days out, offsite trainings followed by a fun night out.
