    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship varies greatly from role to role depending on your managers style. I have overall enjoyed my internship and have worked on some really interesting and large scale projects. However, particularly towards the beginning of the placement there is very little support. Although this has been an amazing learning experience, the support is minimal and there is no formal training, and minimal to no informal training.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • You are given real responsibility from the first day, and if you can prove yourself you will be a valued part of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Other intern roles in the company will vary with this as it is up to your direct line managers teaching style. There was little support throughout, and eventually you will learn things yourself through experience. My manager was based abroad and there was no one to instruct me on basic processes or introduce me to the team. My manager later left the role, and the position was vacant for 4 months, leaving me to work mostly independently. Whilst a great learning experience this was very tough, particularly in the beginning of the role.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It fluctuates greatly due to the time of year. My work was very project based, so some periods were extremely busy, whilst other were quieter. In general the level was good.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Great exposure and great amounts of real responsibility, had interesting projects that directly impacted the company and major launches.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Greatly, this has been a great learning experience and I will leave the company able to offer much more to any future employer.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No formal training.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Unlikely, you need to apply separately for a grad position as there is no fast track from an intern role.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not much, depends on the group on the year.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Above average.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • None, closest club is Portsmouth.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not many.
