The Role
I enjoyed it very much. It felt more like a junior role than an internship. We were given our own projects to work on so it was good to have that responsibility and not feel like "just an intern". If they had a graduate position for HR i would definitely apply but unfortunately they do not.
As I mentioned I was given a lot of responsibility and was included in everything the team did including important team meetings where my thoughts were also asked. This made me feel like my thoughts and everything I did was valued. I definitely felt like I was part of the team.
There's a great support network by my team but also from other colleagues in the office. No question is a stupid question. When you first start at Siemens it can be difficult to understand how things work due to some complicated processes. However if you are unsure of something everyone is ready to help.
Depending on the time of the year and the different projects it can get very busy and it's more on the busy side, especially after Summer. But it is good to have a full schedule rather than an empty one where you sit all day. Every day becomes a learning opportunity.
I was definitely given a lot of responsibility on the projects. There were projects which I ran myself and there were others where I had shared responsibility but they were definitely very full on jobs. If it seems like you are able to handle it you will definitely be given more responsibility.
I developed some skills but there wasn't much training in my placement. There was the internship development program which consisted of Business Influencing Skills (Influencing and Communicating), Presentation Skills, Facilitation Skills and Career Planning. I don’t think these will assist me in my degree studies but it definitely helped me gain skills for future job roles.
The Company
The atmosphere was great there was always friendly faces and it felt like home.Every time it was someones birthday we would have cakes or every time someone went on holiday they would bring something back. On Fridays in our office it was very laid back. There were times where we definitely had fun.
I don't think it was very well organised especially at the beginning. I didn't have a great handover from the person before me but I feel like that was the experience I got and it will vary from one person or role to the other. After that once I was fully aware of my responsibilities it got better.
All of the interns were given the opportunity to take part in the internship development program as I said before this consists of the following modules - Business Influencing Skills (Influencing and Communicating), Presentation Skills, Facilitation Skills and Career Planning. All of them were development sessions and provided great networking opportunities.

Unfortunately, within HR there are no roles for interns to continue. Even those who have graduated unfortunately don't have a position they can return to as there are no graduate roles within HR. However, I know of other departments where people have already signed a contract for them to return when they finish uni.
The Culture
Unfortunately, due to the area where I lived there weren't a good social scene in general. However, there were 4 interns in the office that I worked at and we went for lunch or dinner at times. Also there were other times where interns based elsewhere came to the office and we went out but it wasn't' every week more like once every month at the most
The cost of living is sooo expensive in this area. The rent is pretty much half of my monthly pay and it’s not even for a nice place. It’s for one bedroom in a 5 bedroom house share. However, if you are able to rent a place close to Farnborough Main train station then you can use the free Siemens bus service
This area definitely does not have a nightlife it's the worst!
We had the Christmas Dinner which was the first outside of work event that we went to. We as interns also arranged a few trips to other sites where we stayed the night. There was also the internship development programme which ended with the Entry level talent gala that was an event with dinner and a certificate ceremony.
