    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have absolutely loved my placement year at Warner Bros. It exceeded all of my expectations. The level of responsibility we're given from day one was amazing and we take part in every aspect of the team. I personally enjoyed my placement due to the variety within my specific role. As a digital marketing intern we're responsible for the warnerbros.co.uk website, all social channels, the CRM programme and much much more. And the variety across titles makes everyday interesting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely valued. We're a very tight team within the social side of Digital Marketing and we worked extremely closely with our line manager, the Digital Engagement Manager. Our knowledge and experience is highly valued and we're always involved in decision making and even large campaign meetings with senior members of staff. It's a very supportive environment as well.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • It's a very supportive environment across the business and you're encouraged to ask questions if you're not sure. There's a fantastic intern program in terms of training and development sessions, including things like: Presenting Me, MBTI etc. We also have regular meetings with our line manager to discuss work and any concerns you may have.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We we're very busy, which I personally like as it keeps me interested and avoids getting bored and restless. There can be periods of time where we're very over run, usually in the run up to a large film release. However we always work as a team to help each other out when needed. There are 2 digital marketing interns and titles are split between them, therefore you can focus on your work but are flexible to help each other out if needed.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We are given a huge amount of responsibility. From fully updating the warnerbros.co.uk website, including writing content, building web elements etc. to managing social campaigns for huge films, this involves liaising with external agencies, approving copy and assets and managing calendars. We also manage the databases, writing, building, sending and analysis of results of our CRM program. This is a huge responsibility that goes out to hundreds of thousands of people.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt so much in my time here, from essential skills such as communication with a wide variety of people (agencies, to senior staff to the U.S head office) to time management when having to juggle a lot of projects with varying deadlines. I have also learnt lots of interesting skills such as the of Sitecore CMS, the platform the website is hosted on to utilising Salesforce, another complex platform. The most important skill I have learnt is confidence, in my abilities and knowledge.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There's a fantastic office environment and the balance between fun and getting work done is perfect. Everyone is so friendly so it's easy to pop round to ask a question and have a friendly chat while you're there. As we work in the entertainment industry its a very collaborative environment with people having coffee meetings etc,. Everything is very relaxed and everyone pops on some music or is watching the latest trailer.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We had a very seamless transition into the business, despite not actually having a line manager for the first month, however our previous intern stayed on to cover this. We were stuck into work straight away and had a lot of training to get us up to speed. It was very well organised and we were just like normal employees.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had lots of training, both from a team level and HR level. Team wise we had training with our web agency to get us used to the CMS platform Sitecore. We also had sessions with the Head of Digital Marketing to teach us about her job which is programmatic media buying. From a HR level, we received a year long training program tailored around our development throughout the year, this included sessions such as Presenting Me, MBTI.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Unfortunately there is no graduate scheme here at Warner Bros. so instead future opportunities will simply be if a role becomes available. I would love to come back and work at Warner Bros. as I have loved everything about my placement year. We are kept on a email database for updates of job openings!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are over 50 interns at WB and HBO, so a really tight community forms. There are regular socials and nights out organised, so a chance for people to get together. There is also a great social scene with full time employees, everyone is super friendly and it's great to have a drink after work on a friday!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is a very expensive area to live, taking over half of my salary. It is also quite expensive to socialise in terms of getting lunch and dinner or going out for drinks. However lots of people and interns save money buy bringing in a packed lunch in order to spend elsewhere. It's definitely doable and able to have a great time, you just have to think carefully about where your money goes.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is very good, however this is not something that interests me much personally.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There's lots of opportunites available outside of work, from sports activities like free weekly HIIT sessions, 5k runs to triathalons. There's also lots of opportunity for charity work with Warner Bros. Impact charities, for example every year the interns can take part in the Sleep Out for homeless charities. There's also lots of chances to go to films screenings, premieres and fun events and away days.
