The Role
I have enjoyed the placement thoroughly and enjoyed the challenge of working full time. The only thing I would change is that I would chose to live in London rather than commuting from outside the city.
I have gradually been given more and more independence and tasks to do which has made me feel valued by my managers as well as making relationships with other colleagues in the department.
My manager has been great in ensuring that I have been supported throughout my placement by having regular meetings to catch up on where I am in my tasks and anything I am struggling with as well as being on hand to help me if I have a question.
I have been given a whole range of tasks to keep me busy throughout my placement
I have gradually been given more and more responsibility which has added to my feeling of being valued in the team. By gradually increasing my workload it has meant I have not felt the pressure as much compared to if my responsibility had been this large from the start.
I feel that I have developed a range of skills that I can carry with me for my final year as well as in my future career. Skills such as time management, work ethic and problem solving skills have all been key throughout the year as well as developing my professional appearance.
The Company
The atmosphere was quiet but it meant that everyone was focused whilst everyone still got on within the office. I was lucky in that my team of colleagues were social outside of work hours which meant that we had a lot of fun on team night outs.
The company is relatively small compared to a lot of companies offering placements which meant the scheme is probably not as organised compared to those I have heard about from friends however I have always felt that I have been given the right training for the tasks I have accomplished. The managers also listen to our own ideas and queries which meant that we could rotate around the company for the week to learn how other departments operate.
My manager spent a lot of time teaching me how to do a range of tasks which meant that I was constantly developing my knowledge of not just the company but in areas I can use later on in life. He also allowed me to sit on some meetings and meet partners allowing me to start to build up connections with other companies
Company Parties/Events
I feel comfortable in the working environment and get along with the entire team which would make it much easier to stay on. However I feel I want to gain more experience in other companies and other areas of the industry.
The Culture
Due to the fact that it is a small company, there was only 3 placement students across the entire company. However we all got along very well and developed a good friendship amongst ourselves.
Being in London it is expensive, especially on a lower income.
Nightlife in London is fantastic. Commuting from outside London made socialising more difficult but I was lucky enough to make good friends with anther placement student who allowed me to stay at hers a lot.
There was always some sort of event whether it was a corporate event or simple a team night out. Our manger invited us to a range of networking events which proved to be a lot of fun and in some amazing places around London including some WTM events.
