    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I couldn't have asked for more from my Internship, I gained a wide range of skills that will no doubt help me in my career, I was exposed to a range of departments ranging from maintenance, quality and Environmental health and safety, this has given me the confidence to be able to deal with a range of departments within a business.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They valued my opinion, through our daily action tracking meeting I was given a voice and all contributions were taken on board. I was given meaningful tasks which emphasised how I was valued in the department. This ensured I looked forward to work and knew I'd get the best possible out of the placement

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was supported throughout my internship with regular review meetings with my manager, I engaged in personal development which allowed me to see how I had grown throughout the year, I given constructive feedback which I took on board. whenever I had any problems with tasks I was given support to ensure I could complete the task.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy on most days with regular tasks such as supervising Engineering contractor works within the factory, this I had to juggle with other projects I had been given which at times was challenging when a lot of work was going on within the facility, This required me to manage my time wisely and ensure that whenever I wasn't as busy with day to day activities I worked on given projects.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility within the facility as I worked on ensuring production could take place on a number of occasions by ensuring that contractor repair works wouldn't get in the way of production works, working with an ultrasonic testing machine ensuring the parts were programmed ready for scanning was a major responsibility which allowed me to thrive.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My Interpersonal skills were developed as I had to deal with various departments across the business, my negotiation skills were also developed as I had to at times obtain quotes and eventually logically deciding which company to go with for specific works. My project management skills were developed which will help me to mange my work at university along with managing projects in industry.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was very lively with no bad vibes, everyone was willing to provide help in time on need and the regular team meetings meant any concerns were dealt with. Very often the projects each member of the department was responsible for impacted each other meaning harmony within the office was needed to ensure business needs were met in a timely manner.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The nature of the ongoing projects within the Investments department it meant that my placement was dictated by business needs, there were some organised activities such as facilitating contractor works, the slightly less organised things were projects I was involved in which were dictated by the business along with my interest and skillset

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In general the personal training I received was mentoring sessions with my manager. Due to one of the projects I was involved in I was taught how to use Rhinoceros software. Apart from this I wasn't given any other direct training by the business.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not so much to be honest, the previous years intake appeared to gel a lot more than my intake. I personally had a good working relationship between fellow placement students as I had to work with a majority of them due to the nature of my department and requirements of the business.
