    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working for Warner Bros. immensely. You are treated as a regular employee- not just an intern. As such I was given real responsibilities and projects to lead/work on. At the end of my internship I gained invaluable project management, interpersonal and networking skills and leading technical knowledge of the company and the film industry. All of the above skills have been applied to projects which I can show on my CV to employers after I graduation.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very. I was trusted to lead or create my own projects that had value to the team/department.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had regular catch-ups with my line manager where we would discuss how I was progressing with the work and projects I was working on. We would discuss projects to pursue before the next meeting so there was regular challenges to face and learn from. I was encouraged to work with different departments and travel to vendors to learn about their work to better understand how the department operates.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On most days I was one of the last people in the office. However, this was partly my own choice because I chose to take on as many projects as possible. The general working day usually goes very quickly as the work is quite fun and you're very busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. A few projects I worked on, working on a new encryption application for example, my work was distributed to 20+ territories around the world. I was given regular work from my line manager and Executive Director.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was lots of opportunities throughout the year the learn information and skills that are not in the public domain. Through the various meetings I had with industry people over the year, I was able to learn from people who are considered an authority in their particular area and were willing to share contact information to learn from them when I finish the internship. I was able to learn how a new software application is designed, developed and tested within industry. This is something that will help me in my degree and going forward.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very fun mixed with the general hardworking atmosphere. The people seem to genuinely care about the product they are working towards and this creates a nice mix of people willing to help each other out, work hard and have fun when we can. There wasn't much distinction between work/life relationships as went out regularly.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well in my opinion. There was a clearly defined schedule of training, internship start/end dates, and general good management of the internship program.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot. We had 5/6 half day long training days throughout the year which were given my external business training companies. This showed me that the company is willing to invest time and money into my future.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Not very encouraging. My department does not hire someone very often and there is a lot of competition for roles.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a really fun social scene. The interns regularly went out together both during and after work.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is very high in comparison to the salary. If you are renting a place to live you really have to watch what you are spending as most of your money will go on rent and travel costs. The same goes for socializing as the cost of drinks and meals in the area is a lot.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area has a large mix of bars/pubs to go to that are located in exciting places like Leicester Square. Sometimes I had the opportunity to attend a premiere and go for drinks in the area after which was fun. However, a downside of the nightlife is the cost.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were frequent opportunities to attend exercise classes and lots of Warner Bros. supporting charities to get involved with.

    4/5
