The Role
I enjoyed my placement at Warner Bros. The people who work here really made my placement – very friendly, inclusive and fun to be around. There are many interns throughout the business. As an intern you are part of a community within the larger company, you have a real role that supports genuine business needs and you are treated with the same respect as other employees. Working within the entertainment industry is exciting and offers many perks such as Lunch time screenings and the occasional premier.
I felt valued by my colleagues. I had a role that supported a genuine business need and I was treated with the same respect as other employees. Despite being an intern, I was invited to attend and be involved with key department events, such as screenings and the end of year review.
My team was a small team of three which meant I worked relatively closely with my manager. He checked my work before it was shared and was available to answer any questions about tasks I was working on. The guidance on self and career development within the role came from 5 training sessions set up by the learning and development team rather than my manager.
Due to the nature of the TV industry my workload varied depending on the time of year or point in the month. Sometimes I had a list of task I needed to complete other times I had to ask for more to do. I never felt overwhelmed by my work load nor have I ever had to work later than my contracted hours.
I had a role that supported a real business need and I was responsible for certain daily tasks and regular reports. My level of responsibility remained constant though out my year in the role. I didn’t feel overwhelmed by my level of responsibility and my manager was available to support or answer any questions I had.
The main areas I feel I have developed in are my confidence, my understanding of office culture and my understanding of what I want to get from future work. HR organise training and development sessions for interns, these include presenting skills and project thinking skills. I have attended monthly sessions from digital media speakers, the insight I have gained from these will directly support my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very positive; the people who worked around me were very friendly and entertaining. The office itself was very spacious and light. As a team we celebrated Halloween, Christmas and people’s birthdays which created a happy working environment. We were able to listen to music in the office.
The internship was very well set up, the whole process from application to handover to the next year’s intern. The number of interns employed each year means the processes are well established and smoothly managed. HR organises various activities for interns, such as the intern meet up before the placement starts and the presenting skills training session.
As part of the internship, training sessions were organised for interns to attend, these sessions included presentation skills, project organising skills and team skills. The sessions were enjoyable and useful but generic. I would have valued more training specifically related to my role and my development within the role.

Warner Bros doesn’t offer a graduate scheme but does re-employ interns for full time roles when there are vacancies. As there are a lot of interns I think future employment prospects are limited. I would seriously consider returning to work at Warner Bros if there was a vacancy when I had graduated.
The Culture
Yes, the number of interns in the business means there is a large community of people in the same situation. The interns organised nights out and social events regularly. In addition, there have been various social team events that have been organised, for example, a summer picnic, department drinks and the Christmas party.
Obviously living, working and socialising in central London comes at a premium price. Despite this I have been able to socialise and live comfortably on the salary interns are given. I would recommend being aware of your salary when choosing where you are going to live and commute in from.
The offices are in central London, a short walk from Covent Garden, Soho and Oxford Circus. There are plenty of quality bars, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, and comedy clubs in the area local to the office. I don’t think you could get a much better area for nightlife than this office.
Plenty: I was involved in Yoga, Hitt Training, Premiers, charity events and running races through Warner Bros but outside of the office.
