    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work at GSK was exactly what I wanted to do, and exactly what they told me it was probably going to be.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were very friendly and encouraging me in my work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Every time I needed support and guidance my supervisor was here, sometimes I just had to wait for several hours when he was on a meeting but otherwise I received all the help I needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It really depended on the days but usually I was really busy. It was always possible to ask for more work but the balance was usually good.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was pretty autonomous and synthesized molecules for 3 different managers so I had quite a lot of responsibilities on what I was doing. They really relied on me to reach their targets ASAP so I always tried to do my best.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I exactly developed the skills I will need in the future as I want to work in the same area than during my placement year. It was a very very useful experience.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly atmosphere, a bit like if it was your work family. Very nice working conditions.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was perfectly organized from the beginning to the end. GSK did an absolutely amazing job. The only things that I can criticize is SRG's job to help us that was very bad, almost inexistent, particularly at the beginning of the year when we had to create a bank account, get a NI number and stuff like this. But this is not related to the WORK placement set up.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We could basically attend to all the meetings / lectures we wanted, whatever the area was so that was very good.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I haven't really any idea because I want to do a PhD outside GSK and then come back so they were obviously not going to offer me a job during this year.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Going out was colleagues quite often to the pub, and every week-end with the other IPs.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was doing house sharing with 4 people so it was OK but you can't live alone here.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 7/10 because in Stevenage it was quite bad but we are very close to London so it's really good to go out. However you have then to take the first trains in the morning to go back home, which you can't do every week-end.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not a lot of things to do in Stevenage...

    1/5
